Byron Donalds Announces Candidacy For Florida Governor In 2026

Donald’s gubernatorial bid has been endorsed by President Donald Trump. If successful Donalds, 46, would become the first black governor of Florida.
Before being elected to Congress in 2020, Donalds spent four years in the Florida House, the last two coinciding with Gov. Ron DeSantis’ first two years as governor. Although the two were considered allies at that time, their relationship appeared to change after Donalds endorsed Trump over DeSantis for president in 2023 and became a major surrogate for the Trump campaign.
"We have a great governor. Ron DeSantis has done a tremendous job for our state," Donalds said on Fox News' "Hannity" Tuesday night. "But now the job is to keep the best state in the country as the best state in the country. And so that's going to be the mission at hand. And I'm excited to announce my candidacy with you tonight."

Born in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the middle of three children raised by a single mother, Donalds is a graduate of Florida State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and marketing in 2002. He has worked at TIB Bank, CMG Life Services, and Moran Wealth in Naples.
Donalds entered politics as part of the Tea Party movement and ran for the U.S. House of Representatives for Florida's 19th congressional district in 2012. He finished fifth, out of six candidates. In 2016, he ran for the Florida House of Representatives and won, replacing retiring incumbent Francis Rooney to represent Hendry County and east Collier County in the State Capitol.
In 2020, Donalds succeeded in getting elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the 19th district and was re-elected in 2022.
Donalds’ rough background and hard-core conservatism have made him a GOP rising star.  Donalds has described himself as a "Trump-supporting, liberty-loving, pro-life, pro-Second Amendment Black man."
Donalds has supported and promoted Trump, frequently appearing with him at public events, including the Daytona 500 earlier this month. After the race, he posted on X, "It was an honor to join President Trump aboard Air Force One & at The Great American Race.”

In a statement released after Donalds' announcement, Florida Democratic Party Nikki Fried called him a "dangerous political opportunist who should be nowhere near the governor’s mansion.
“One of the least popular people in Tallahassee politics, Byron is best known for skipping votes, defending insurrectionists, and promoting a revisionist version of Black history that defends Jim Crow," Fried said. "He has little political experience and no executive experience, and is completely unqualified to run the state of Florida.
(Donalds has denied the Jim Crow accusations, saying that while it was true marriage rates for Black Americans were higher at the time, it didn't mean he thought Jim Crow was "great.”)
“Byron is only interested in power, and he won’t fix our property insurance crisis or bring down the cost of living for Floridians. He only has a shot at the nomination because Trump endorsed him, and Trump is only endorsing him because he wants a puppet in the governor’s mansion — pissing off Ron DeSantis is an added bonus.”
At an event in Pennsylvania in June last year, Donalds drew outrage for saying that more Black people were married during the Jim Crow years when rights for Black people were severely restricted.
"You see, during Jim Crow, the black family was together," Donalds said. "During Jim Crow, more black people were not just conservative, black people have always been conservative-minded, but more black people voted conservatively. And then, HEW (Department of Health, Education, and Welfare created in the 1950s), Lyndon Johnson, and then you go down that road, and now we are where we are."
Donalds lives in Naples with his wife, Erika, and their three sons: Damon, Darin, and Mason. Donalds was previously married to Bisa Hall for three years.

Arrest record.

When Donalds was 18, after a party at his apartment, he was arrested for possession of marijuana. Two years later, a female acquaintance convinced him he could make a thousand dollars by depositing a bad check. “I was desperate, I was out of money, I didn’t have a job, my rent was overdue."
Donalds has since made restitution to the bank for about seven times the original amount but the state pressed bribery charges in 2000. The charges were later expunged. The 1997 marijuana charge was dismissed as part of a pre-trial diversion program.
“My pastor always says that everybody in life is 15 seconds away from stupid," Donalds said, "but when you’re desperate, you’re three seconds away. And I was desperate.”
Donalds has been open about these arrests during his campaigns and has said they are a tale of sin and atonement that make him uniquely qualified to serve others.
In 2020 a complaint was filed alleging that Donalds did not disclose his previous arrests on several applications, including one to sell securities and a 2014 application to serve on the board of Florida SouthWestern State College. Donalds maintained that since the bribery charges were expunged, they no longer existed and he had no reason to disclose them.
After reviewing the complaint, the Florida Ethics Commission dismissed it, finding it lacked legal sufficiency.

Florida Republican Party Endorses A Democrat

The Florida Republican Party has come out with a post that is a head-turner for political wonks. The Sunshine State GOP has lent its endorsement to, of all things, a Democrat!
Call it what you will; epic trolling, spiking the football, taunting the afflicted…any and all may apply. Nikki Fried is someone who has long operated with a dense cloud of delusion. When she served in the state capitol as the Agriculture commissioner she would boast how Democrats were growing in nature when she was - literally - the only elected party member in a power role in the state legislature. She even touted being the only elected Dem in Tallahassee in her social media bio.
She then took that hubris and ran for the governor’s mansion, where she could not even win her party’s primary, losing to Charlie Crist, who went on to be curb-stomped in the election by Ron DeSantis, losing by 20 points. The Florida Democrats then wisely selected her to be the state’s party leader.
Since she took the position Fried was a regular source of head-scratching activity. She boasted about Democrats flipping some state seats, in Jacksonville and Orange County – which are Democrat regions. She adopted the Florida panther as the party mascot, which was apt in ways she did not consider as it is a deeply endangered species with dwindling numbers and difficult to find in this region.
The result of November 5th’s election? Trump carried the state by 13 points. Democrats took all of six counties – SIX! Miami-Dade - which has been historically blue forever, it seems, went to Trump by 11 percent! And all of that media push to sway Hispanics away as a result of a comedian telling a joke at the Madison Square Garden rally?
While most metropolitan centers are traditionally blue across the country, in Florida you see the Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville regions all going for the Republicans. Two central Florida counties that are Puerto Rican enclaves - Osceola and Hillsborough - went red. Additionally, two amendment items on the ballot that Democrats favored heavily - abortion becoming codified (Amendment 4) and the legalization of marijuana (Amendment 3) - were voted down. The Amendment 3 issue was a personal hit to Fried, as she has direct ties to the marijuana industry in the state.
That is a garbage result, as far as the Democratic Party in Florida is concerned. For this reason, the state Republican Party leadership has enthusiastically pushed for Nikki Fried to continue for another four years.

I love this country, and I have lived other places. I believe when people of different opinions speak face to face, we realize we are more similar than different.”
“I don’t believe everything anyone says,” Patrick asserted. “I have been very torn over the years if I should give a …about politics or just live the life I want as an example. I have been doing the latter. The reaction today is definitely interesting … since all I said was, I love this country.”

Two weeks after after the National Fraternal Order of Police (NFOP) endorsed former President Donald Trump, a newly formed liberal police leadership organization has endorsed Kamala Harris, who supported the "Defund the Police" movement, for the 2024 presidential election.
The Fraternal Order of Police officially endorsed Trump for President on September 6, citing overwhelming support for the former president among its 377,000 members.
On Monday, the pro-Harris-Walz X account "Harris Wins" excitedly shared on X that Harris had won some law enforcement support of her own: "The Police Leaders for Community Safety just announced they are endorsing Kamala Harris over Donald Trump. Law enforcement agencies do not want to support a convicted felon. This is huge," it said.
The notoriously misleading and deceptive "Kamala HQ" X account also trumpeted the news that a "leading law enforcement group" had endorsed Harris.
NJ.com also reported the news, inaccurately stating in its headline: "Harris gets stunning endorsement from group that normally backs Trump."
In truth, "Police Leaders for Community Safety" is a very small national advocacy (501(c)4) nonprofit that has never endorsed Trump or anyone else. The group was only recently activated in June of 2024, and is headed by former UW-Madison Police Chief Sue Riseling, whose rabidly left-wing, anti-Trump proclivities are openly on display on social media.
Riseling lauded Harris’ alleged “commitment to public safety” in the group’s press release announcing its first-ever endorsement.
“This endorsement reflects Vice President Harris’ track record and unwavering commitment to public safety and the rule of law,” Riseling said. “As police leaders who have led law enforcement agencies and the major national law enforcement leadership groups, we know first-hand what it will take to make our communities safer – and that includes having Kamala Harris as our next president.”
While Police Leaders for Community Safety claims to be nonpartisan, its chairwoman’s X account betrays an obvious preference for Democrats, support for the Biden-Harris regime and animus toward Republicans, especially former President Donald Trump. The chairwoman frequently reposts content from left-wing disinformation outlets “Occupy Democrats,” “Call to Activism,” “The Palmer Report,” and “Republicans against Trump,” as well as posts from Joe Biden’s X account.
Riseling was very active on X active ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, sharing an October 2022 Occupy Democrats post accusing Trump of being a deadbeat who doesn’t pay his bills.
By the way, she retired from the force in... 2016.

Former Democratic candidate Rod Joseph endorses Rick Scott, flips to GOP, urges Haitians to join him.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Rod Joseph has endorsed Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., for reelection against Democratic candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.
Joseph lost against Mucarsel-Powell in the Democratic Senate primary and has officially announced he is leaving the Democratic Party to become a Republican, the announcement said.
“For far too long, the Democratic party has taken us immigrants for granted and used us as political pawns each election season. I call upon all my fellow Haitians to join me and re-elect the U.S. Senator Rick Scott to represent the state of Florida,” Joseph said.
“Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and the rest of today’s Democratic Party are the Party of no visions and no plans,” he continued.
Joseph said he can’t support the Democratic Party because it wants to “implement an agenda that is against the norms and values of our society.”
Scott responded to the endorsement and said he appreciates Joseph’s endorsement and looks forward to “earning more votes from Democrats who are fed up with how radical today’s Democrat party has become.”
“As Floridians learn more about Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s socialist record, they will keep her out of office once again,” Scott said.
The general election will take place Nov. 5.

 Teamsters Union Makes No Endorsement in Presidential Race; First Time They Haven't Endorsed a Democrat Since 1996. (But the Teamsters membership preferred Trump by 58/59%.)

Now, some of you will say the union members greatly preferred Trump, so they should have endorsed Trump!
Right you are, I'm getting to that. Gimme a quick second. First, the non-endorsement:
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters will not issue an endorsement in the presidential election for the first time since 1996, and for only the second time since 1960.
Teamsters General President Sean O'Brien said "neither major candidate was able to make serious commitments to our union to ensure the interests of working people are always put before Big Business."
"We sought commitments from both Trump and Harris not to interfere in critical union campaigns or core Teamsters industries -- and to honor our members' right to strike -- but were unable to secure those pledges," O'Brien said.
The Teamsters endorsed President Biden during the 2020 election, and has consistently supported Democratic presidential nominees in recent election cycle.
The union notably waited to announce its endorsement decision far longer than other unions and labor organizations, including the United Auto Workers, National Education Association, Service Employees International Union and AFL-CIO, which all endorsed Biden, then Vice President Harris, after the president dropped out of the race in July.
The Teamsters has endorsed GOP presidential candidates, including Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, and O'Brien's flirtation with former President Trump and Republicans sparked speculation the union could once again break from the pack.
Now: The union conducted a poll to determine its members' sentiments about the election.
It turns out those sentiments, get this, didn't matter to the corrupt leadership. The members strongly preferred Trump, which resulted in... no endorsement either way.
Ah, Democracy! We must all work to save our precious Democracy, where the people's votes never matter and the Party always picks the winners.
Below, the Teamsters' own data for the race. While Teamsters preferred Biden over Trump in a straw poll conducted a while ago, they now approve Trump over Harris by 58-59% to 31%, depending on the metric. An electronic poll of members says one thing, a "research" effort (which I guess consists of randomly calling members) says another. But both show almost 60% preference for Trump.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Releases Moving New Ad in Support of Trump and America’s Children.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. officially endorsed Donald Trump for president in late August after holding several private talks with the former president.

Kennedy, in a statement, outlined the three primary causes that drove him to his decision: free speech, the war in Ukraine, and what he described as “the war on our children.”
He explained that these issues were central to his initial decision to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent, and now they have compelled him to support Trump’s candidacy.

“The three great causes that drove me down to this race in the first place, primarily, these are the principal causes that persuaded me to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent. I don't know how much trust Trump wants to put into Gabbard. I'd keep her where I could keep an eye on her. She was a Democrat for over 20 years, she  was vice-chair of the DNC 2013-2016. She resigned to endorse Bernie Sanders in 2016. She ran as a Democratic candidate for President in 2020 and ended her candidacy and endorsed Joe Biden. In 2022 she left the Democrats and registered as an Independent.

RFK Jr. exits race: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Friday he has suspended his independent presidential campaign and will “now throw my support to President Trump.” Kennedy said he will withdraw from the ballot in 10 battleground states.
Trump’s response: The former president, in remarks from Nevada, thanked Kennedy for a “very nice endorsement.” Kennedy will campaign with and for Trump, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN. Trump has a campaign event later on Friday in Arizona, where Kennedy announced his endorsement.
