“Washington will help Israel defend itself if Hezbollah retaliates!” – US sends warning to Hezbollah over coming Israeli war.

The US is warning Hezbollah that America won’t stop Israel’s invasion of Lebanon. The Biden admin is also promising that they will help Israel defend itself if Hezbollah retaliates.

U.S. officials trying to prevent a bigger Middle East war are issuing an unusual warning to Hezbollah: Don’t assume that Washington can stop Israel from attacking you.
The American message is designed to get the Lebanese-based Shiite militia to back down and de-escalate the brewing crisis along the Israeli-Lebanese border, a person familiar with the discussions said.
The blunt message comes as many U.S. officials appear resigned to the possibility that Israel will make a major move against Hezbollah inside Lebanon in the coming weeks.
Two U.S. officials told POLITICO that the militia needs to also understand that Washington will help Israel defend itself if Hezbollah retaliates. They stressed that the militant group should not count on America to act as a brake on Israeli decision-making.
The message is being conveyed indirectly, the person said; the U.S. doesn’t engage Hezbollah one-on-one because it is a designated terrorist organization, and it relies on public communications or intermediaries.
U.S. special envoy Amos Hochstein and other American officials have traveled to the region in recent days to rein in both sides, even as there’s a growing sense in Washington and beyond that escalation is inevitable.
“Israel’s gotta do what they gotta do,” a Defense Department official said, having been granted anonymity, like others, to speak frankly.
“The militant group should not count on America to act as a brake on Israeli decision-making” – Biden means Hezbollah won’t get the same privileges that Hamas is currently getting from him.
As we posted yesterday, it’s no secret that Israel is about to invade and I do appreciate the warning and promise that the US will help Israel defend itself. I only wish that Biden was as supportive of Israel’s commitment to destroy Hamas. Seriously, when has Biden ever sent any warning to Hamas?? Their attack on the people of Israel was far more brutal and horrific than anything Hezbollah has done at this point. Yet Hamas has gotten a pass from Biden this entire time and he’s actively undermined Israel for the past five months or so, trying to get Israel to deescalate while withholding crucial weapons and ammunition in order to pressure them into submission.
It is true that Hezbollah is far better armed than Hamas because Iran has been flying weapons directly into Lebanon. And the need for the US to aid Israel if Hezbollah retaliates is crucial. But then the Lebanese people don’t get the same sympathies from leftists here and around the world that the Palestinians do, so Biden likely doesn’t think helping Israel defend itself will hurt him as bad in the election.

Late yesterday Netanyahu suggested he is moving forces to the north:
Speaking with Channel 14 on Sunday, in what appeared to be his first major interview with an Israeli media outlet since Oct. 7, Netanyahu said that the current phase of fighting was set to wind down.
“The intensive phase of the war against Hamas is about to end. It doesn’t mean that the war is about to end but its intensive phase is about to end in Rafah,” he said, referring to the city once deemed a safe zone in the south of the Palestinian enclave.
“We will continue afterward to mow the lawn, we will not give up on that,” Netanyahu said, speaking in Hebrew.
After this, “we will have the option to move part of the force to the north. We will do that,” he said.
The north of Israel has been evacuated since last year, when Hezbollah began firing over the border. Now it looks like they are about to reap what they have sown.
