One Of The Last Navajo Code Talkers From World War II Dies At 107 - R.I.P.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — John Kinsel Sr., one of the last remaining Navajo Code Talkers who transmitted messages during World War II based on the tribe’s native language, has died. He was 107.

R.I.P. - Salute

John Kinsel Sr.

Navajo Nation officials in Window Rock announced Kinsel’s death on Saturday.
Tribal President Buu Nygren has ordered all flags on the reservation to be flown at half-staff until Oct. 27 at sunset to honor Kinsel.
“Mr. Kinsel was a Marine who bravely and selflessly fought for all of us in the most terrifying circumstances with the greatest responsibility as a Navajo Code Talker,” Nygren said in a statement Sunday.
With Kinsel’s death, only two Navajo Code Talkers are still alive: Former Navajo Chairman Peter MacDonald and Thomas H. Begay.
Hundreds of Navajos were recruited by the Marines to serve as Code Talkers during the war, transmitting messages based on their then-unwritten native language.
They confounded Japanese military cryptologists during World War II and participated in all assaults the Marines led in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945, including at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Peleliu, and Iwo Jima.
The Code Talkers sent thousands of messages without error on Japanese troop movements, battlefield tactics, and other communications crucial to the war’s ultimate outcome.
Kinsel was born in Cove, Arizona, and lived in the Navajo community of Lukachukai.
He enlisted in the Marines in 1942 and became an elite Code Talker, serving with the 9th Marine Regiment and the 3rd Marine Division during the Battle of Iwo Jima.
President Ronald Reagan established Navajo Code Talkers Day in 1982 and the Aug. 14 holiday honors all the tribes associated with the war effort.
The day is an Arizona state holiday and Navajo Nation holiday on the vast reservation that occupies portions of northeastern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, and southeastern Utah.

A man gets trapped in an elevator with a burning electric bike battery. From what I observed and what I read in the comments this occurred in China.

His badly scorched corpse is seen being dragged from the elevator.

Someone on X made a joke that the Mossad took out the Iranian president and the agent was named Eli Copter. Palestinian telegram channels repeated it as a fact, and this news anchor quoted it as if it’s real.

REPORT: Iranian president likely dead in helicopter crash …
It’s being reported that the Iranian president is likely dead after they believe his helicopter crashed due to bad weather:

The search for Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter is still ongoing:
IRGC drones flew over the area with thermal equipment and special cameras, but due to extreme cold and vegetation, they could not find any helicopters.
It is possible that the helicopter did not catch fire because no heat source was seen in the thermal cameras of IRGC drones.
Right now the sky in the region is dark and the probability of finding the president is very low. Due to the extreme cold in the region, the possibility of injury or even martyrdom of missing people is high.

1st fatal California mountain lion attack in 20 years leaves 1 man dead and his brother injured.

"The mountain lion was dispatched," sheriff's officials said.
A weekend outing to the Northern California woods took a horrific turn for two brothers when a mountain lion attacked them, killing one and leaving the other with traumatic injuries to the face, authorities said.
This was the first fatal attack by a cougar in the state in 20 years, California officials said.
The attack unfolded Saturday afternoon while the brothers, ages 21 and 18, were out searching for shed deer antlers near the El Dorado National Forest, about 52 miles northeast of Sacramento, authorities said.
The teenager who survived the attack called 911 at about 1:13 p.m. PT, reporting they had been attacked by a cougar and that he had become separated from his older sibling, according to a statement from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.
When sheriff's deputies and paramedics arrived at the scene near Georgetown around 1:34 p.m., they located the injured teenager and began administering first aid, according to the sheriff's office.
Additional deputies sent to the scene launched a search for the teenager's brother, finding him nearby lying motionless on the ground with the mountain lion crouched between them and the mortally injured man, according to the sheriff's office.
"Deputies discharged their firearms in order to scare the mountain lion off so they could render medical aid," the sheriff's office said.
But by the time they reached the victim, he was dead, authorities said.
The teenager was taken to a local hospital where he was being treated. Information on his condition was not immediately disclosed.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife game wardens and an El Dorado County trapper combed the area for the mountain lion, authorities said.
"The mountain lion was dispatched, and the body of the mountain lion was collected for further examination," according to the sheriff's office.
Authorities said DNA samples collected from the scene matched the deceased lion.
Mountain lion attacks on humans are rare in California, authorities said. According to state fish and wildlife officials, the last recorded fatal mountain lion attack in California occurred in January 2004, when a 35-year-old cyclist was killed on a trail in Orange County, authorities said.
The last fatal mountain lion attack in El Dorado County occurred in April 1994, when a 40-year-old woman was killed in the Auburn State Recreation Area, according to officials.
Since 1890, fewer than 50 mountain lion attacks on humans have been reported in California, including six that have been fatal, officials said.

Pet Gila monster bites Colorado man, who dies in what experts call a "rare event.”

The Jefferson County coroner has confirmed that a 34-year-old Colorado man died this month, days after being bitten by one of his two pet Gila monsters.
"I think this case highlights that any venomous animals should be respected," said Dr. Nick Brandehoff, a medical toxicologist and expert in reptile bites with the Asclepius Snakebite Foundation, who was consulted on the Lakewood Gila monster case.
Gila monsters are venomous reptiles found in the southwestern United States. While their bites can be painful, they are normally not fatal to humans. Experts say that the last report of a human dying from a Gila monster bite was in 1930.
"The vast majority of bites cause local swelling and bleeding," said Brandehoff, who said the bites can cause intense localized pain and can cause victims to pass out. But deaths are exceedingly rare.
"The last case I have been able to find," said Brandehoff, "was 1930 and that was not even a medical journal case."
According to several experts involved in the Lakewood case, the man -- who has not been identified -- owned two pet Gila monsters and was bitten by one of them on Feb. 12. It was a juvenile and about 12 inches long. The owner was hospitalized and died the Friday leading into the Presidents Day holiday weekend -- four days after the animal bit him.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirmed the death, saying an autopsy was performed on the bite victim but the precise cause of death won't be known until additional toxicology testing is completed. (WTF???)
Eric Harper, a criminal investigator with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, said CPW was asked to remove the Gila monsters from the home after the bite. He told CBS News Colorado it is illegal to own Gila monsters in Colorado without a license. Harper said the victim also owned tarantulas which are not illegal to own.
Harper said the Lakewood incident may be an anomaly, but it shows "venomous reptiles are hazardous and should only be handled or possessed by people with the proper training."
Harper and Brandehoff both said the reptile that bit its owner will be transported this week to a lab in Greeley at the University of Northern Colorado, where its venom will be extracted and studied to bring a greater understanding as to why its bite led to its owner's death. (WTF ??? 2.0 … are these guys supposed to be experts in toxicology ??)
Brandehoff said experts will "look at the venom components and see if there is some reason this might occur." He said while it's early in the investigation, he suspects the victim may have suffered some kind of allergic reaction to the Gila monster's venom. (DAYUM PEOPLE … IT’S A VENOMOUS REPTILE AND IT HAS “MONSTER” IN THE DAMN NAME … IF IT BITES YOU, YOU COULD DIE …SMDH.)
The Lakewood Police Department says the two Gila monsters were removed from the victim's home and taken to a wildlife rehab center in another state.
