Canadian PM Justin Trudeau To Resign - UPDATE: Has Resigned

As the Pierre Poilievre Revolution appears inevitable.
Justin Trudeau is expected to resign as the leader of Canada's Liberal Party, a move that will set up his ouster as Prime Minister as well. According to the Globe and Mail, Trudeau could announce his departure as soon as Monday in a bid to get ahead of an all-important caucus meeting on Wednesday.
The controversial far-left leader has led his party to the abyss over the last several years, with the Pierre Poilievre-led Conservative projected to win a resounding victory in October's elections. Once he's resigned his party position, Trudeau will be replaced as Prime Minister, though the exact timeline is unclear.
Justin Trudeau is expected to announce as early as Monday that he will resign as Liberal Party Leader, three sources said Sunday, as the Prime Minister faces a caucus revolt and dismal public opinion polls that show his party will likely be swept out of power by Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives in a landslide victory.
The sources stressed that they don’t know definitely when Mr. Trudeau will announce his plans to leave but said they expect it will happen before a key national caucus meeting on Wednesday. The Globe and Mail is not identifying the sources because they were not authorized to discuss internal party matters.
The Liberals will no doubt seek a narrative shift by bringing on a fresh face before voters go to the polls. That seems like a lost cause, though, given just how popular Poilievre has become. He recently gave one of the greatest political speeches in modern history, drawing plaudits from around the world.

Justin Trudeau Resigns

Justin Trudeau resigned this morning as Canada’s Prime Minister but suggested he will stay on until his party can choose a replacement for him.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation Monday in the face of rising discontent over his leadership and after the abrupt departure of his finance minister signaled growing turmoil within his government.
Trudeau said “internal battles” mean that he “cannot be the best option” in the next election. He plans to stay on as prime minister until a new leader of the Liberal Party is chosen.
An official familiar with the matter said Parliament, which had been due to resume on Jan. 27, will be suspended until March 24. The timing will allow for a Liberal Party leadership race. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the matter publicly.
All three main opposition parties have said they plan to topple the Liberal Party in a no-confidence vote when Parliament resumes, so a spring election to pick a permanent replacement was almost assured.

United States Secret Service Director, Kimberly Cheatle resigns after assassination attempt against former President Trump and severe scrutiny by Congressional committee.

She shouldn't have had that chance, she should have been fired the minute she admitted that she had no idea what was going on at the site of the attempted assassination.

BREAKING: Embattled RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel to RESIGN.

In a stunning development, Ronna Romney McDaniel, the embattled Chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), is set to resign from her position following the February 24th South Carolina GOP primary, as reported by The New York Times.
This news comes after Donald Trump met with Ronna McDaniel at the Mar-a-Lago estate following his prediction of forthcoming “changes” within the RNC.
Following the meeting, President Donald Trump has announced plans to offer recommendations for the party’s growth after the upcoming South Carolina GOP primary.

According to two sources familiar with the matter, Ronna McDaniel informed President Trump of her intentions to resign from her position shortly after the South Carolina primary on February 24.
According to the New York Times, Trump is reportedly favoring Michael Whatley, the current Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP), to fill the leadership vacuum.
Last month, Donald Trump threw his support behind Michael Whatley for the role of RNC co-chair, granting him his “Complete and Total Endorsement” in a message to his followers.

Trump wrote in an email:
“North Carolina Republican Chairman Michael Whatley is running to become the Co-Chair of the Republican National Committee next week in California.
In addition to leading North Carolina to tremendous success in the recent election, including the victory by Senator Ted Budd, he has helped turn North Carolina, with my help, of course, red. Mike is MAGA all the way!
He has been with me and real Republicans all the way, has helped America First candidates get elected, and will be a great Co-Chair of the RNC.
Michael Whatley has my Complete and Total Endorsement. On to victory in 2024!”

Since Ronna Romney McDaniel assumed leadership of the GOP in 2017, the party’s grip on power has seemingly loosened. Under her watch, Republicans have experienced a series of electoral setbacks, losing eight gubernatorial races, three Senate seats, 19 House seats, and a presidential race.
The Gateway Pundit reported on Saturday that the RNC is looking at opening a credit line to help pay the bills and compensate for dismal recent fundraising levels.
It can be recalled that donations to the feckless Republican Party reached an 8-year low under Ronna McDaniel.
The 13th District Committee in North Carolina expresses no tolerance for  “frivolous spending” coupled with “abysmal performance.”
An in-depth investigation by RedState has revealed concerning details about the spending habits of the Republican National Committee (RNC) under the leadership of chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, highlighting a troubling pattern of expenditure on non-essential items.
This report comes over a year after the initial exposé that revealed millions in donor funds being allocated to luxury items and high-end entertainment.
The latest financial scrutiny, drawing from the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) records, compares the RNC’s spending to that of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from October 20, 2022, to November 30, 2023. The results display a stark contrast in financial priorities between the two parties.
The organization has outspent the DNC in areas such as floral arrangements, consultants, office supplies, and limousines.
The DNC has channeled significantly more funds into key areas like voter file maintenance, GOTV (Get Out The Vote) texting campaigns, and state party support, which are traditionally vital for election success.
On Tuesday, Mike Reed, the Chief of Staff for the Republican National Committee (RNC), is also set to resign from his position later this month, according to a report by Politico.
Reed, who has held the position since January 2022, announced his decision to step down in an email, citing the need to dedicate more time to his expanding family as the primary reason for his departure.

Harvard President Claudine Gay resigns over plagiarism claims and disastrous antisemitism testimony in bitter letter where she says she's been victim of racism - but fails to apologize.

Harvard President Claudine Gay today resigned in a bitter letter to colleagues and students where she failed to apologize for or acknowledge the disasters that led to her departure.
Gay, 53, lasted just six months in the role - the shortest tenure of any president in the school's history.
Her resignation comes 28 days after her shocking congressional testimony about campus antisemitism, where she refused to categorize calls for Jew genocide as harassment or concede that Jewish students had a right not to feel safe at Ivy League schools.
In her resignation, Gay wrote that she was standing down after 'consultation' with the school's board, which has been under pressure to replace her after defending her remarks.
She failed to acknowledge where she went wrong - making no mention of  December 5 testimony or the mounting claims of plagiarism against her - but said she had been the victim of racist threats.
'It has become clear that it is in the best interests of Harvard for me to resign so that our community can navigate this moment of extraordinary challenge with a focus on the institution rather than any individual,' Gay wrote.
The Harvard Corporation, which serves as the school board, heaped praise on her 'devoted' service and said it had accepted her resignation 'with sorrow'.
She said it had been 'frightening' to find herself the target of threats, and 'distressing' to have her character questioned.
Gay will be replaced by Alan M. Garber, Provost and Chief Academic Officer, who sat behind her at the infamous December 5 hearing, nodding as she made her remarks.
Her six month tenure as president is the shortest in the school's history.

Gay was publicly scorned for her December 5 congressional testimony, where she repeatedly refused to condemn calls for Jew genocide, saying such threats did not count as harassment.
In her email today, Gay complained: 'It has been distressing to have doubt cast on my commitments to confronting hate and to upholding scholarly rigor, two bedrock values that are fundamental to who I am, and frightening to be subjected to personal attacks and threats fueled by racial animus.'
She said it was with a 'heavy heart' that she was standing down, but confirmed she would retain some kind of role at the school.
'I believe we have within us all that we need to heal from this period of tension and division and to emerge stronger.
'I had hoped with all my heart to lead us on that journey, in partnership with all of you.
'As I now return to the faculty, and to the scholarship and teaching that are the lifeblood of what we do, I pledge to continue working alongside you to build the community we all deserve,' she said.
The Harvard Corporation said “It is with that overarching consideration in mind that we have accepted her resignation. We do so with sorrow.
'While President Gay has acknowledged missteps and has taken responsibility for them, it is also true that she has shown remarkable resilience in the face of deeply personal and sustained attacks.”

Kevin McCarthy resigning from Congress after being ousted as House speaker.
He said he wants to "serve (screw) America in new ways."

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted from his role by a faction of his own party earlier this year, will resign from Congress at the end of the month, he said on Wednesday.
"I have decided to depart the House at the end of this year to serve America in new ways," McCarthy wrote in an op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal. "I know my work is only getting started."

The announcement caps off McCarthy's fall from GOP leadership after rising to the speakership in a historic 15-round vote earlier this year. Speculation over McCarthy's future spiked after a band of eight Republican backbenchers engineered his historic ouster less than two months ago over personal and policy disputes. After his defeat, he sent conflicting messages over whether or not he would seek reelection, serve out the rest of his term set to end in January 2025 or leave the House early.
McCarthy insisted Wednesday that he'll remain involved, helping recruit and fundraise for House Republican candidates -- exercising one of his greatest strengths as a House leader.
"I will continue to recruit our country's best and brightest to run for elected office. The Republican Party is expanding every day, and I am committed to lending my experience to support the next generation of leaders," he wrote in The Journal.
Still, his departure will again diminish the power of one of his party's strongest fundraisers.
"Kevin McCarthy's contributions to our country and to growing the House Republican majority are unparalleled. A razor-sharp political mind, Kevin personally raised hundreds of millions of dollars and recruited hundreds of diverse candidates that led us from deep in the minority to the majority. This devotion to building our party is born from a strong love of country and a heart for service that motivates Kevin at his core," said Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., who chairs House Republicans' campaign arm.
More immediately, his departure from Congress will shrink Republicans' already slim margin, which shrank after former Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., was expelled from the House last week in the wake of a scathing ethics report and a slew of federal charges. Santos has pleaded not guilty and defended himself.
Speaker Mike Johnson will only be able to lose three GOP votes on each measure before falling below a simple majority.
Johnson downplayed the impact of McCarthy's upcoming resignation, dismissing concerns that the former speaker's looming exit weakens the GOP majority.
Asked by ABC News whether McCarthy's resignation will have any adverse impact on his ability to run the House, Johnson said it wouldn't.
"No," Johnson said. "We're going to keep moving forward and I'm optimistic about that."
Johnson said he isn't concerned about losing McCarthy's vote and the potential that it could make it harder to pass votes.
"Our conference is working well together. And I'm confident in that," Johnson said.
Johnson praised McCarthy for his leadership in a post on X Wednesday. He said McCarthy and his wife Judy "have served faithfully and sacrificed substantially for the good of our country and our cause." Johnson told ABC News he is "sad to see [McCarthy] go."
One of McCarthy's rivals, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., who brought the so-called motion to vacate McCarthy as speaker, celebrated the California congressman's upcoming departure in a one-word post on X: "McLeavin'."
McCarthy's announcement before California's Dec. 8 campaign filing deadline is likely to open the floodgates for candidates to run for his ruby red congressional district, which includes a large part of the state's Central Valley. California Gov. Gavin Newsom will have to call a special election to replace McCarthy.
McCarthy is the third lawmaker who will resign from the 118th Congress rather than serve out the full two-year term. He joins Democrat Rep. David Cicilline of Rhode Island and Republican Rep. Chris Stewart of Utah, who both resigned earlier this year.
McCarthy's resignation ends his 16-year career in the House. He was first elected to Congress in 2006 and about four years later was elected to majority whip. He served as majority leader and House Republican leader before his historic rise to the speakership earlier this year.
