DeSantis thanks Alberta Premier Danielle Smith for Canadian whiskey gift after Stanley Cup bet.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis thanked Alberta, Canada Premier Danielle Smith for sending his office two bottles of Canadian whiskey after they had a “friendly wager” about the Stanley Cup between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers.
“Thank you, @ABDanielleSmith, for sending us Canadian whiskey in honor of our Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers,” DeSantis said.
DeSantis called the Panthers’ win a “great victory” for Florida as he said the win against the Oilers depended on game seven and the “Panthers were able to pull it out.”
“Florida may be the most tropical state in the United States, yet we have held the Stanley Cup for 3 of the last 5 years between the Lightning and Panthers. Florida has become a hockey state!” DeSantis said.
In a video DeSantis shared on social media, he held up the two whiskeys gifted from Smith, said they look “really really good” and that they “will be served at some functions at the Governor’s Mansion in the weeks and months ahead.”
“I want to thank Danielle and cheers to conservative leadership in both Alberta and in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said.

Hockey Player, Matt Petgrave, who slashed Nottingham Panthers player Adam Johnson throat is arrested for manslaughter.
(I hope he gets 20 years or more. That was manslaughter pure and simple, wasn’t no freakin’ accident.)
A man has been arrested for the manslaughter of Nottingham Panthers player Adam Johnson after his death last month.
The 29-year-old American ice hockey star was killed after a skate slashed his throat in a collision during a match against Sheffield Steelers on October 28.
About 8,000 fans watched in horror as attempts were made to save Johnson’s life as he lay bleeding on the ice at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena, shielded by players after the collision with Steelers star Matt Petgrave, before he later died of his injuries in hospital.
A statement said: ‘Detectives have today (Tuesday November 14) arrested a man on suspicion of manslaughter. He remains in police custody at this time.
‘On Saturday 28 October, Adam, aged 29, was seriously injured during a game between Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers and was sadly later pronounced deceased in hospital. A post-mortem examination confirmed he died as a result of a fatal neck injury.’
