Chinese Ships Collide While Harassing Philippine Coast Guard

(While hoping there was no loss of life ... this is freaking hilarious! When I first started reading and the article said “performing some risky maneuvers” I though maybe they were within maybe 100, maybe 75 feet. But NO, they were right up on the Philippine CG ship … skin of the teeth. The two Chinese ships were actually as close as you can get two ships.)

Two Chinese ships collided with each other in the South China Sea on Monday while trying to harass the Philippines’ coast guard, video shows.
In a high-speed chase, the China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 3104 was pursuing the Philippine patrol ship BRP Suluan approximately 10.5 nautical miles east of the contentious Scarborough Shoal, deploying water its water cannon at one point, according to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Spokesperson Jay Tarriela. As the CCG vessel approached the boat, it collided with a larger Chinese Navy destroyer that attempted to intervene by positioning itself between the Philippine ship and the coast guard cutter.
“The CCG 3104 … performed a risky maneuver from the PCG vessel’s starboard quarter, leading to the impact with the PLA Navy warship. This resulted in substantial damage to the CCG vessel’s forecastle, rendering it unseaworthy,” the spokesman wrote.

The incident reportedly caused “substantial damage” to the CCG vessel, rendering it unseaworthy, with offers of assistance by the Philippine Coast Guard being ignored by the Chinese.

(This second video clip is longer although some DF put stupid music over the video.)

The footage shows significant damage to the focsle of CCG-3104 as well as a large hole in the forward port side of DDG-164. Right before the collision, several sailors can be seen on the focsle of the Chinese Coast Guard vessel, with them likely to have been killed or at least suffered serious injuries.
Now, Chinese Communist Party or not, we can hope there was no loss of life on that Chinese Coast Guard vessel. As it happens, the Philippine Coast Guard promptly assisted with recovery and medical treatment, which strikes me as not only a good humanitarian effort but something that one would think would be an elementary law of the sea.
After the crash, the PCG assisted with recovering overboard crew members and provided medical aid for injured CCG personnel, Tarriela said.
“The Philippine Coast Guard reaffirms its dedication to safeguarding all maritime operations in the area and wishes for the swift recovery and proper treatment of any affected CCG personnel,” he said.
In the United States Navy, this is the kind of thing that gets ship commanders relieved in disgrace - or, at least, it should. I'm not sure what penalties for a cluster foul-up like this are in the PLAN, but China being a Communist country, I can imagine that the punishment would be... stringent.

When I was getting ready to post this, I found another Twitter/X account which had more on the story and more video than the other two Twitter/X accounts.

Mexican Flagged Ship, ARM Cuauhtémoc, Collides With The Brooklyn Bridge

The ARM Cuauhtémoc is a Mexican Naval training vessel built in Spain in 1982. This occurred on 5.17.2025. The reports are saying that the vessel suffered a transmission? failure shortly after casting off and was stuck in reverse after backing out from Pier 17. The ship was moving in reverse when it struck the bridge.
20 Naval cadets injured, 3 with critical injuries,
2 deaths, subject to change, that I’ve heard so far.
The Police and FDNY arrived on the scene to assist in the rescue. The ship was stopped and anchored before hitting the Manhattan Bridge.

U.S. Flagged Ship Contracted By U.S. Military Hit In North Sea

Officials could not rule out foul play.
Officials have not ruled out foul play after the U.S.-flagged MV Stena Immaculate was struck by a Portuguese-flagged container ship on Monday while at anchor off the coast of the U.K.
The company that manages the ship, Crowley, said in a statement that the accident happened at 5 a.m. EST while the Stena Immaculate was anchored in the North Sea.
“The Stena Immaculate sustained a ruptured cargo tank containing Jet-A1 fuel due to the allision,” the company said. “A fire occurred as a result of the allision, and fuel was reported released.”
The crew abandoned the ship after multiple explosions were reported. Currently everyone on the ship has been accounted for.
“Crowley immediately initiated its emergency vessel response plan and is actively working with public agencies to contain the fire and secure the vessel,” the company added. “Our first priority is the safety of the people and environment. We will provide more updates as information becomes available.”
USNI News reported that the ship was under a 70-day contract by Military Sealift Command to support the Defense Logistics Agency, which is responsible for managing fuel for the United States military.
“The collision and ensuing explosions will not impact operations or combat readiness,” a United States official told Reuters. “We do not have a single point of failure.”
Officials said that foul play could not be ruled out as a possibility, The Telegraph reported.
