Anytime anyone mentions anything about the Statue of Liberty / Emma Lazarus connection, I like to take that opportunity to correct the crap about the “The New Colossus,” commie poem, written by socialist writer Emma Lazarus.
Yeah, it’s the one with the “huddled masses” crapola.
The poem “The New Colossus,” was written by socialist writer Emma Lazarus. It didn’t come with the statue, "Liberty Enlightening The World," a gift from France unveiled in 1886, but was slapped on in the middle of the “Progressive Era” (in 1903). This was also the period that gave us other things as unAmerican as Lazarus’ poem, such as the income tax, and the notion that the Constitution could be considered a “living document” (Woodrow Wilson loved to bloviate about this).
It appears that the "huddled masses" quote was misinterpreted a while back to mean that we want your down-trodden, your poor, your unfortunate, your disadvantaged, your uneducated, and we will provide you with a free education, free health care, and allow you to become democrats.
The "huddled masses" commie puke was written in 1883, and it was 1903 when it was engraved onto the base.
It is very important that you realize that the Statue of Liberty and the Socialist/Communist poem by the Lazarus have NOTHING to do with one another. The poem is a parasite that was able to become attached to a host.
The poem was forgotten and not even a part of the celebration of the opening of the statue in 1886, and it was not until 1903 that it gained much attention outside the original contest to raise money.
In fact, the original intent of the statue had nothing to do with immigration, it had to do with freedom and liberty. France was thanking us for being the first nation ever to make the rulers of their country aware that freedom and liberty was possible. This is ultimately what lead to the French Revolution.
Of course the French Revolution failed because they fought for the rights of man (man as a single entity) while the founders of the U.S. fought for the rights of individual men (we all have inalienable rights that cannot be taken away by anything other than the government).
The reason the statue was build had nothing to do with the Lazarus poem, and yet once again history was twisted so that one group of people who wanted to convince the children of the world the Statue of Liberty was all about immigration. This was all one big lie that was taught in schools since 1903. This was a distortion by the progressives to make you think America was willing to take anyone, from any place in the world or universe.
The truth is, the statue was a celebration of the Declaration of Independence. In fact, we don't call it the statue of immigration, we call it the Statue of Liberty. Lady Liberty is stepping forward. She is meant to be carrying the torch of liberty from the United States to the rest of the world.
And in the proceeding years, that is exactly what she did. And she offered her freedom to France and the rest of Europe, and those countries came up with their own form of freedom, and their own interpretation. That's what other countries do. We have a right to choose our own forms of freedom.
And yet none compare to that of the United States. None. We were the first to establish freedom, we were the first to sign anything like the Declaration of Independence, and we were the first to form a U.S. Constitution that was meant to protect the natural rights of men.
Those who intentionally or unintentionally misinterpret the meaning of these great documents, or this great statue, are those who mean to change the United States to be something other than what the founders had intended.
American immigration has always been about welcoming those who wish to join us in the American dream, live by our laws and enrich our culture while rejecting those who would seek to undermine us.

'Nope': Former Walgreens Loss Prevention Supervisor Schools Ayanna Pressley Over Racism Claim on Closures.

As RedState previously reported, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) - a member of the infamous Congressional "Squad" of radical AOC-led leftists, has weighed in on the closures of several Boston Walgreens locations that have taken place over the last year, with the race card of course being prominently featured in her rant.

Using emotionally loaded words like "abandoning" without evidence, Pressley also declared, "This closure is a part of a larger trend of abandoning low-income communities like the previous closures in Mattapan and Hyde Park — both in the Massachusetts 7th."
The problem with these claims, as my colleague Mike Miller so eloquently noted, is that they leave out one crucially important piece of information: The closures are happening in high-crime parts of Beantown, where retail theft is rampant and leaves stores facing tough choices, like locking items behind glass doors, limiting aisles that are available for shopping, or shutting down altogether:
“Perhaps if members of the community didn't rob those Walgreens stores blind — likely stealing some of the products you mentioned, included — the locations wouldn't have been closed. That said, of course, compassion is warranted for law-abiding members of the community who are inconvenienced or worse by unchecked crime. “
"Unchecked crime" that goes unchecked thanks to woke, soft-on-crime elected "leaders" like Ayanna Pressley and the other Democrats at the city and state levels in deep blue Massachusetts like Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey who have expressed similar sentiments about the closures.

Unfortunately, it's innocent members of the community like the elderly, sick, and disabled who pay the price when lawlessness is allowed to prevail in retail establishments and in the streets, which we've seen happen in countless Democrat-run cities across the country like San Francisco, Detroit, and Chicago where businesses big and small are fleeing for greener pastures.
To reiterate a point I've made before on this issue, Democrat politicians who are using Walgreens as a scapegoat for their failed policies are also using the popular drugstore chain's decisions to close non-profitable stores as a way to manipulate their core constituencies into thinking they are being run over by rich white CEOs who are supposedly putting people over profit.
But instead of blaming Walgreens for closures in crime-ridden areas, residents and other community leaders should wake up and take it up with the elected officials who they put into office in the first place, and let them know they will no longer accept the city’s (and state’s) woke approach to (not) combating crime.
And then they need to turn around and put people in office who have the backbone to do what needs to be done to fight back against the crime issues rather than coddle the offenders. 
Until they do, people can expect the deterioration of iconic American cities like Boston and San Francisco to continue. Yes, there are many bad-faith political actors in powerful positions in Massachusetts, but at some point the people who keep putting them in positions of power need to own up to the damage they've done in continuing to elect them in the first place.
In other words, if you are a resident of the Bay State and you keep pulling that lever for Democrats and expecting a different result, then you are part of the problem, not businesses that sometimes have no choice but to cut their losses and move on.

Elon Pokes Fun at Our WEF 'Overlords,' As Klaus Schwab Worries About Need to 'Rebuild Trust'

The elites are meeting again in Davos, Switzerland, at the meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). So you know that there will be insane and ridiculous things that they say and do while they are there. But remember, they are our betters, so you're supposed to be respectful and just accept what they say, no matter how silly it might be.
As we already reported, Javier Milei didn't quite go along with that edict. He scolded them, saying the collectivist view of the world had wrecked his country and was now putting the Western world in "danger."
He declared the Western world was in danger because it was being co-opted by views that lead to socialism and poverty, and no one could speak more to how badly that will turn out than his country, Argentina. He said the leaders of the Western world have abandoned the model of freedom for collectivism and that's never the solution to the problems; rather, it is the "root cause."
Milei also urged people not to "surrender to the advance of the state," saying  that the state is not the solution, "the state is the problem itself." "Long live freedom, damn it!" he declared.
But that was likely the only moment of sanity at the event, and I'm willing to bet that they aren't absorbing what he's saying because they appear wedded to pushing the collectivist approach. Indeed, Klaus Schwab seems upset that folks may not trust what they are doing.

Interesting choice of words. Trusteeship implies you have some responsibility and or control over us when we are a free people — you don't have such a relationship over us, except in your mind. And when people use the term "greater good," one thinks Communism and/or someone is about to try to sell you something you don't want.  
Elon Musk didn't think much of what Schwab had to say; he's called him out in the past.

Musk mocked him, saying Schwab wants to be "emperor of the Earth," and his policies don't seem to make for an exciting future. The good thing is Klaus sounds worried.
Elon and others also had fun with this moment at the forum.
"Wow, I didn't know Elizabeth Warren was at Davos," Musk joked, referring to a person who went around, blowing on each of the leaders, which I think is meant as a blessing.

Argentina's Milei heads to Davos taking selfies, criticizing 'socialist agenda.’
BUENOS AIRES, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Argentina's President Javier Milei was en route by commercial jet to the World Economic Forum in Davos in Switzerland on Tuesday, taking selfies with passengers on board and criticizing what he called the event's "socialist agenda".

The trip marks the right-wing Milei's first overseas tour since he took office last month following a rapid ascent for the relative political newcomer who made his name as an acid-tongued economist and television pundit.
At home he is battling to fix Argentina's worst economic crisis in decades with an austerity package that he hopes can tame annual inflation above 200%, build up foreign currency reserves now in the red and lure back investment.
While he has moderated after a brash election campaign where he often wielded a chainsaw to reflect his plans to slash the size of the state, Milei has stood by some of his more extreme pledges including plans to eventually shut the central bank.
Asked by reporters on his flight about his plans at Davos, he said he aimed to "seed ideas of freedom in a forum that is contaminated by the 2030 socialist agenda, which will only bring misery to the world".
Milei took selfies and videos with surprised passengers on board, a reflection of his penchant for the dramatic but also underscoring how he has been able to click with regular people in Argentina fed up with the political status quo.
On his personal account on X, Milei re-posted videos from on board the plane. His spokesman Manuel Adorni explained in a post that the president had traveled commercial to save what he calculated as over $300,000.

Milei traveled with a small delegation including his foreign minister Diana Mondino, Cabinet chief Nicolás Posse, Minister of Economy Luis Caputo and his sister Karina Milei, who is also the Secretary General of the Presidency.
In addition to Davos, the delegation will meet International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Kristalina Georgieva, a week after reaching an agreement with IMF staff over the latest review of the country's troubled $44 billion program.

Cuba’s Communist Party approved changes to the nation’s health code that, once formally implemented, will allow euthanasia under the country’s barely functional healthcare system.
The law promises “dignified death.” Under communism, dignity is not allowed even in life.
We are told by members of the liberal elite that Cuba’s socialist healthcare system is to be emulated. Those who know what they are talking about have a different viewpoint:
“I have had to cast a patient with a piece of cardboard. The scissors and the stethoscope you have to take care of as if they were gold; if you are careless, they steal them in the consultation room. Since we lack paper, we don’t even have prescriptions,” A Cuban orthopedic specialist told Diario Las Americas in December.

Argentina: Javier Milei Signs Executive Order Weakening or Ending 350 Socialist Policies.

Argentine President Javier Milei announced during a national broadcast on Wednesday night the signing of a Necessity and Urgency Decree (DNU), a form of executive order, that would modify or overturn an estimated 350 federal economic policies.
Milei’s executive order targeted nearly every aspect of the Argentine economy – including imports, price controls, health care, sports federations, landlord and tenant policies, and the yerba mate industry – in what he described as an attempt to impose a “shock stabilization plan” to prevent a financial catastrophe. Argentina is facing the worst economic crisis of its history as a result of decades of socialist policies, lavish government spending, and corruption, fueling skyrocketing rates of poverty, joblessness, and inflation. The nation’s inflation rate reached 160 percent in the days after Milei’s December 10 inauguration.
Milei, a libertarian economist, decisively won the November 19 presidential election against socialist former Economy Minister Sergio Massa on a platform promising widespread economic deregulation, a drastic reduction in the size of government, and a foreign policy centered around alliances with America and Israel, rather than China and Russia as previous administrations had pursued.
“Today is a historic day for our country. After decades of failures, impoverishment, decadence, and anomie, today we formally begin the path to reconstruction,” Milei announced in his address on Tuesday:
“We designed a shock stabilization plan that includes a fiscal adjustment plan, an exchange policy that adjusted the exchange rate to the market value and a monetary policy that includes the destruction of the central bank,” he announced, flanked by his cabinet of ministers. “We are making our maximum effort to try to diminish the tragic effects of what could be the worst crisis of our history, the product of decades of governments who insisted on using failed recipes.”
“As we have been saying for months, the problem is not the chef, it’s the recipe,” he continued. “Those ideas that failed in Argentina are the same ideas that have failed far and wide on the planet. Where they were intended, they have failed economically, socially, culturally, and, on top of that, they have cost the lives of millions of human beings.”
“This doctrine that some call leftist, socialism, fascism, communism – and which we like to catalog as collectivism – is a way of thinking that dilutes the individual in favor of the power of the state,” Milei explained, adding,
It is the basic foundation of the caste system. It is a doctrine of thinking that is partially based on the idea that the reason of the state is more important than the individuals that comprise the nation. That the individual is only recognized if he submits to the state, and therefore citizens owe veneration to its [the state’s] representatives the political caste.
Milei asserted that politicians are “not just not God – they are the cause of our problems,” then listed 30 of the hundreds of reforms inside of the 83-page DNU.
The executive order proclaims an economic “emergency” in the country to officially begin on Tuesday and end on December 31, 2025. As a result of that emergency, it enacted sweeping changes to Argentine law.
Milei eliminated multiple laws that allow the state to control the prices of various goods and services. The “Rental Law,” which greatly limited what kind of lease contracts landlords and tenants can sign, no longer exists. The Argentine outlet Infobae noted that rents in Argentina increased by 300 percent year-on-year in 2023 under the Rental Law, despite socialist lawmakers insisting it would keep rents low.
The executive order also eliminated price control laws for artisanal products, regulations governing the purchasing of rural land, and the federal government’s Price Observatory, “to avoid the persecution of companies.” Customs regulations controlling imports and exports were also severely reduced and a national registry of importers and exporters will cease to exist, as the DNU noted Argentina was one of the few countries in the world to have such a registry. Milei’s executive order addressed Internet access, as well, greatly deregulating telecommunications.
The regulations targeted some of Argentina’s largest industries, including winemaking – freed from a restrictive state regulation system – and the cultivation of yerba mate, a plant used to make a hot herbal drink popular in Argentina. The order called for the modernization of the National Institute of Yerba Mate to limit the use of quality control regulations to suppress the industry. It made similar revisions to policies for mining, the airline industry, and sugar. On the subject of health care, the executive order dramatically deregulates the drug industry, allowing Argentines greater access to generic drugs and expanding the use of electronic prescriptions “to achieve greater agility in the industry and minimize costs.”
The changes announced on Tuesday are the second wave of reforms in Milei’s ten days in office. On December 12, Milei’s Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced that the government would dramatically devalue the Argentine peso, down from 366 pesos per U.S. dollar to 800 pesos. The move, he announced, was necessary to undo the artificial overvaluing of the peso under the socialist prior administration. To aid Argentine families, however, Caputo also raised the amount of money given to families in Argentina’s child tax credit to bring it closer in line with inflation, though not totally up to date.
