Trump Orders New Census Prepared, Righting The (Intentional) Miscounts From 2020

President Donald Trump has ordered the Commerce Department, which oversees the U.S. Census Bureau, to prepare a new census. That comes after years of evidence that the last one contained significant errors that almost exclusively benefited blue states.

As RedState reported, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) recently pushed for this in a speech in late July, and it wasn't just an idle concern. Florida is one of the states that got messed over the most during the last census, with its population being undercounted. In fact, five of the six states that were undercounted in 2020 were red states, and the one blue state was one of the lowest undercounts (Illinois).
Florida was undercounted by a whopping 3.48 percent, while Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas were all above four percent. That's not the only consideration, though. You also have to consider blue states being overcounted, and surprise, six of the eight states that were most overcounted were blue states, including New York and Massachusetts.
Both Florida and Texas should have gained an extra seat, while Minnesota and Rhode Island should have lost seats. Tennessee likely would have garnered a new seat as well.
You can view James Comer’s letter to the Census Bureau discussing the census discrepancies in 9.2024 here:

How is it fair for blue states to retain seats they shouldn't have? And no doubt, if we did a census only counting citizens, as DeSantis and now Trump are calling for, Democrat-led states would lose even more seats than previously projected. How much of California's congressional delegation is propped up by the state's large illegal immigrant population?
With that said, there would be legal challenges to such a census, but so what? There are legal challenges to everything the Trump administration does. I believe it's fairly obvious that the intent of the Constitution was not to count illegal aliens, as that makes no sense regarding the electoral college system, which is reliant on the census for allocation. Why would you count people who can't vote to allocate electoral votes? We all know the answer.

Workers at SF Federal Building told to work from home due to crime.

SAN FRANCISCO - Workers at San Francisco's Federal Building located on 7th and Mission streets are reportedly being advised to work from home due to safety concerns over crime.
The Chronicle reported that the Department of Health and Human Services issued a memo last week calling for employees to "maximize the use of telework," due to conditions around the building.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has also reportedly expressed safety concerns about her staff who work there.
The plaza has been known for years as a place where drug use and sales are common.
This summer, Governor Gavin Newsom announced he would double the amount of California Highway Patrol officers deployed in San Francisco as part of a plan to crackdown on the ongoing deadly fentanyl crisis.
In May, a rare open-air Board of Supervisors meeting was held outdoors at Civic Center Plaza. Some supervisors pressed the mayor about the persistent drug problems in parts of the city, but the meeting quickly devolved into heckling and a brick was thrown by someone before the meeting had to be moved back indoors.
The open-air drug markets, known to be commonplace in neighborhoods such as the Tenderloin, and the crime that has accompanied them have been blamed for impacting popular retail corridors.
In April, Whole Foods closed their flagship San Francisco store about a block away from the SoMa Federal Building. Whole Foods representatives said it was because of employee safety concerns, although Supervisor Matt Dorsey, who represents SoMa and the Tenderloin, characterized the closure as temporary.
A few months later, it was announced that management of San Francisco's Westfield Centre would be transferred to its lender, who would then appoint a receiver to operate the property. They cited a downturn in foot traffic, occupancy and declining sales as the reason for their decision.
When Florida Governor Ron DeSantis used San Francisco as a backdrop for a campaign ad to further tarnish perceptions of San Francisco in national media, Mayor London Breed came to her city's defense, saying the conservative presidential hopeful was playing politics. She added that while he was quick to criticize, he offered no solutions.
The mayor is performing a balancing act of being a cheerleader for San Francisco but has also acknowledged crime in the city as she pushed for a bigger police budget.
In her back and forth with San Francisco supervisors, Breed had said crime is the number one concern in the city and something everyone is talking about.

Georgia Democrat Lawmaker In Deep Blue District Switches Parties: A ‘Moral’ Choice.

A Democratic Georgia state lawmaker in a deep blue district announced this week that she was leaving the party and becoming a Republican over the issue of school choice.
“I represent a blue district in the city of Atlanta so this wasn’t a political decision for me,” state Rep. Mesha Mainor (R-56) tweeted on Tuesday. “It was a MORAL one.”
Mainor said in an interview that she was disappointed in her Democrat colleagues for not standing by her when she “decided to stand up on behalf of disadvantaged children in support of school choice.”
“They crucified me,” she said. “When I decided to stand up in support of safe communities and refused to support efforts to defund the police, they didn’t back me. They abandoned me.”
Mainor also took a shot at the Democrat Party for how it has treated black voters for decades.
“For far too long, the Democrat Party has gotten away with using and abusing the black community,” she said. “For decades, the Democrat Party has received the support of more than 90% of the black community. And what do we have to show for it? I represent a solidly blue district in the city of Atlanta. This isn’t a political decision for me. It’s a moral one.”
“The most dangerous thing to the Democrat Party is a black person with a mind of their own,” she later added.
Mainor said she’ll still work across the aisle with the other party to solve issues and that she’s received a lot of support since announcing that she is becoming a Republican.
She said that she is excited to help the Republican Party “focus not just on preaching to the choir but growing the congregation.”
There have been multiple instances over the last several months of state-level Democrats switching to the Republican Party, including in North Carolina, Louisiana, and West Virginia.
