WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum aimed at blocking illegal immigrants from receiving Social Security benefits, arguing that only legal American citizens should be eligible for benefits.
The move aims to remove monetary incentives for illegal aliens to come to the United States, the White House explained in a fact sheet released Tuesday, noting that Trump has repeatedly promised to take illegal immigrants off Social Security, and that the president signed an executive order in February ordering taxpayer resources not be used to incentivize or support illegal immigration.
Under President Joe Biden’s administration, more than 2 million illegal immigrants were assigned Social Security numbers in just the 2024 fiscal year, the White House said. The White House argues that the Biden administration’s actions continue to steal money and important services from American citizens.
The president’s memorandum directs his administration to make sure that illegal aliens are not receiving funds from any Social Security programs, prioritizing enforcement actions against any grantees or sub-grantees that fail to verify eligibility or stop payments to deceased or ineligible people who are receiving these benefits.
The Social Security Administration’s Inspector General must investigate the earnings reports for individuals who are 100 or older and have mismatched records, in order to combat identity theft, the memorandum says. Additionally, Trump’s action expands the Social Security Administration’s fraud prosecutor program to 50 or more U.S. Attorney’s offices across the United States, and establishes a Medicaid fraud-prosecution program in 15 U.S. Attorney’s offices.
The administration has already stopped over 1,000 immigrants with ties to terrorist activity or criminal records from receiving Social Security benefits, the White House said. As part of its efforts to remove illegal immigrants from the country, the Trump administration has also launched the CBP Home app, which offers illegals an opportunity to “self-deport.”
According to estimates from the Congressional Budget Office, the Biden border agenda cost federal and state taxpayers over $16.2 billion. The Federation for American Immigration Reform has calculated that American taxpayers spent at least $182 billion annually covering the costs of 20 million immigrants and their children who entered the country illegally, the White House said. That figure includes $66.4 billion in federal expenses, and $115.6 billion in state and local expenses.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge on Thursday allowed the Trump administration to move forward with a requirement that everyone in the U.S. illegally must register with the federal government and carry documentation, in a move that could have far-reaching repercussions for immigrants across the country.
Judge Trevor Neil McFadden — a Trump appointee — sided with the administration, which had argued that officials were simply enforcing a requirement that already existed for everyone who is in the country but isn’t an American citizen. McFadden’s ruling didn’t go into the substance of those arguments but rested largely on the technical issue of whether the groups pushing to stop the requirement had standing to pursue their claims. He ruled they didn’t.
The requirement goes into effect Friday.
Immediately after the ruling, Department of Homeland Security officials emphasized in a news release that the deadline to register for those who’ve already been in the country for 30 days or more is Friday and that going forward, the registration requirement would be enforced to the fullest.
“President Trump and I have a clear message for those in our country illegally: leave now. If you leave now, you may have the opportunity to return and enjoy our freedom and live the American dream,” Secretary Kristi Noem said in the statement. “The Trump administration will enforce all our immigration laws — we will not pick and choose which laws we will enforce. We must know who is in our country for the safety and security of our homeland and all Americans.”
While questions remain about how the registration requirement will function, its impact is potentially far-reaching. The Trump administration — which has worked to make good on campaign promises of mass deportations — has said between 2.2 million and 3.2 million people could be affected.
One of the groups that sued, the National Immigration Law Center, called the Thursday ruling “disappointing” in a statement.
“This disappointing ruling unfortunately means that, for now, Trump’s scheme to force people into an impossible choice moves forward. As we weigh next steps in our case, we urge affected community members to consult with an immigration attorney to better understand the consequences of registering or not,” said Nicholas Espíritu, deputy legal director at National Immigration Law Center.
Homeland Security officials announced Feb. 25 that it was mandating that all people in the United States illegally register with the federal government, and said those who didn’t self-report could face fines or prosecution. Failure to register is considered a crime, and people will be required to carry registration documents with them or risk prison time and fines.
Registration will be mandatory for everyone 14 and older without legal status. People registering have to provide their fingerprints and address, and parents and guardians of anyone under age 14 must ensure they registered.
The registration process also applies to Canadians who are in the U.S. for more than 30 days, including so-called snowbirds who spend winter months in places like Florida.
Federal immigration law has long required that people who aren’t American citizens and live in the U.S., including those here illegally, register with the government. Those laws can be traced back to the Alien Registration Act of 1940, which came amid growing fears of immigrants and political subversives in the early days of World War II. The current requirements stem from the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952.
But the requirement that people illegally in the U.S. register has been enforced only in rare circumstances. In fact, advocates opposing the government say it hasn’t been universally used since it was first introduced in the mid-1940s.
It was used in a limited way after Sept. 11, 2001, when the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System required that noncitizen males 16 and older from 25 countries — all but one of them majority Arab or Muslim — register with the U.S. government. The program led to no terrorism convictions but pulled more than 13,000 people into deportation proceedings. It was suspended in 2011 and dissolved in 2016.
The Trump administration has argued that the registration requirement has always existed and that officials are simply enforcing it for everyone.
The groups that sued say the government should have gone through the more lengthy public notification process before bringing about the change, and that it’s enforcing this simply to facilitate President Donald Trump’s aim of carrying out mass deportations.
They argue that the registry puts people who work, contribute to the economy and have deep family ties in America into a deep bind: Do they come forward, register and essentially give up their location to a government intent on carrying out mass deportations, or do they stay in the shadows and risk being charged with the crime of not registering?
The government has already asked people subject to the registration requirement to create an account on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

On Tuesday, the GOP-led House of Representatives once again passed the “Laken Riley Act,” a bill that would require federal officials to arrest illegal immigrants who have been charged with theft-related crimes in the United States.
Forty-eight Democrats joined with 216 Republicans in voting for the bill, which had previously been approved by the lower chamber in March of last year. This time around, 159 Democrats opposed it, compared to 170 in the earlier vote.
These “no” votes showed that some Democrats “ignored” voters who “demanded secure borders, the deportation of violent illegal aliens, and laws that put the safety and security of the American people first,” said Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

Nearly all of the heartless looters busted in one Florida county following hurricanes Helene and Milton were illegal immigrants, according to local authorities.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said this weekend that 41 of the 45 alleged looters rounded up on armed robbery, burglary, loitering, grant theft, vandalism and trespassing charges on their turf in the wake of the two deadly storms are in the US illegally, Fox News said in a report.
The sheriff’s office also said that another 196 people were caught in the area under suspicious circumstances and questioned by deputies but had to be released due to lack of probable cause — with 163 of those individuals found to be in the US illegally.
“A lot of these people were in the area to take others’ properties and our efforts prevented additional crimes from occurring,” Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said at a press briefing.
Gualtieri said 80 additional deputies were deployed to areas in the county where residents were ordered to evacuate in order to keep the community safe.
In addition tot he looters, another 58 people were charged with scamming hurricane victims out of some $250 million for repairs they never did — and in most cases ever intended to do.
“Our effort to protect the community has not stopped with these hurricanes’ direct impact,” the sheriff said in a statement. “We are now focused on protecting our residents and our businesses who are desperate to rebuild and get on with their lives.”

Rep. Berny Jacques: Florida will deal with criminal aliens ‘harshly’ under new laws.
TAMPA, Fla. – Rep. Berny Jacques, R-Seminole, touted new anti-illegal immigration laws he helped push this year, along with discussing the state’s increasingly Republican trends.
Jacques told Florida’s Voice at the Florida Young Republicans 2024 State Convention that he worked on “every immigration bill,” partnering with his colleague Rep. Kiyan Michael, R-Jacksonville, during both this year and last year’s session.
Gov. Ron DeSantis recently signed three bills aimed at further cracking down on illegal immigration and illegal aliens in Florida.
Jacques said HB 1451 removes the ability of local governments to accept IDs that are being issued by nonprofit organizations to illegal immigrants. Sen. Blaise Ingoglia, R-Spring Hill, sponsored the Senate version of the bill. The legislation will take effect July 1.
Another bill Jacques carried with Michael in the House increases penalties for illegal aliens who commit crimes in the state after already having been deported for being there illegally.
“These are people who have been deported and came back across the open Biden borders and went on to commit more crimes,” Jacques said.
Ingoglia carried the Senate version, SB 1036, which was approved by the governor and will take effect Oct. 1.
The legislation increases the severity of each degree of felony by one degree: a third degree would become a second degree, a second degree a first degree, and a first degree turns into a life felony.
“They will be dealt with more harshly with more penalties for crimes they commit when they come back to Florida, if they come back to Florida, which I don’t think they will because we’re pretty tough here,” Jacques said.
The representative said currently, America is seeing “nothing short of an invasion.”
“That’s what it is,” he said. “And in fact, a recent poll showed that most Floridians and most Americans believe what’s happening at the border is an invasion, and we have to stop it. And Florida has to remove the incentives for illegal aliens to come to our state.”
Jacques is a legal immigrant from Haiti and said there is a “right way and a wrong way” to come into the country.
“One of the things that most legal immigrants hate is when people cut the line when they see what they’ve had to go through, what their family members have had to go through,” Jacques said.
The representative said there is a “pride to become an American when you do it the right way.”

This is an incredible turn of events. I don't know if "mutiny" is the right word here, but clearly, Biden has no way to enforce his threats at this point. Border Patrol agents are not going to go along with it and short of using the Insurrection Act to mobilize the U.S. Army (and they likely wouldn't act either), this represents a major roadblock to the president's attempts to further destroy the Southern border.
We are in uncharted territory right now, and I'm certainly thankful cooler heads have prevailed, at least at this point. Will this force Biden's hand toward some kind of renewal of enforcement of immigration laws? Surely, with his bluff having been called by his own law enforcement officials, he has to try a different approach. Never underestimate the propensity of Washington politicians to keep making the wrong decisions, though.
