Democrat Judge In New Mexico Abruptly Resigns

After suspected Tren de Aragua gang member found with firearm at a residence he owns.
 
Longtime Doña Ana County Magistrate Judge Joel Cano — a Democrat and former police officer — abruptly resigned after federal agents arrested an alleged member of the violent Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang at a residence he owns.
The bombshell resignation letter, dated March 3, came just days after federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations raided a property tied to Cano and his wife, Nancy, arresting 23-year-old Cristhian Ortega-Lopez on federal gun charges, the Albuquerque Journal reported.
The Venezuelan national, who is in the U.S. illegally and has alleged ties to a ruthless transnational gang, was allegedly in possession of multiple firearms — including ones linked to disturbing images and videos on social media.
Agents recovered four firearms from the neighboring property owned by April Cano.
According to prosecutors, Ortega-Lopez admitted to having fired them. He now faces charges of being an illegal alien in possession of firearms and ammunition — a federal offense that carries up to 15 years in prison.

SCOTUS Blocks Trump From Deporting Alleged Tren De Aragua Gang Members

The Democrats want every single criminal invader to have their day in court. That will delay many deportations until after voting in 2028.


The United States Supreme Court early Saturday morning blocked President Donald Trump from deporting illegal Venezuelan immigrants who are suspected of being in the brutal gang Tren de Aragua.
Trump promised during his campaign to deport criminal illegal aliens, and has invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to help fulfill that promise. The high court, though, sided with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), arguing that the administration did not give the suspected gang members proper notice.
“Without this Court’s intervention, dozens or hundreds of proposed class members may be removed to a possible life sentence in El Salvador with no real opportunity to contest their designation or removal,” the suit from the ACLU said.
“The Government is directed not to remove any member of the putative class of detainees from the United States until further order of this Court,” the court wrote.
Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito were the only two judges to dissent from the majority opinion.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump could use the Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged gang members, but said potential deportees must be given a chance to challenge such removal.
The ACLU claims the illegals, who are being detained in Texas, were given notices about their deportation in English, despite one detainee only speaking Spanish, according to a BBC report. The challenge also said the suspected gang members hadn’t been told about their right to contest the decision in court.
The Trump administration says it has already deported 137 suspected Tren de Aragua gang members under the Alien Enemies Act.
The Supreme Court ruled on April 7 that Trump could use the act for such deportations, if he gives proper notice. The case landed at 5-4, with all but Justice Amy Coney Barrett from the court’s conservative wing ruling in the majority. Barrett partially dissented from the majority. The court’s three liberal justices dissented together, according to The New York Times.
The order reversed a lower court ruling from U.S. District Judge James Boasberg. Boasberg temporarily blocked the Trump administration from enforcing the Alien Enemies Act in a case involving five Venezuelan nationals, as well as on anyone else who may be affected.

DHS’s First Use Of Trump’s Revived 18th Century Deportation Power

Homeland Security agents on Friday detained the first illegal migrant gangbanger under President Trump’s newly-invoked 18th-century Alien Enemies Act, a Venezuelan human trafficker and member of the Tren de Aragua gang.
DHS agents and Florida police arrested Franklin Jose Jimenez-Bracho by reportedly “steering” him directly into a group of officers with handcuffs ready, authorities revealed Friday, per the New York Post.
Jimenez-Bracho, identified as a “known Tren de Aragua gang member” by DHS, was wanted for human trafficking and smuggling.
“Once again, Florida leads the way,” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis posted on X following the arrest.

The detention marks the first use of Trump’s invocation of the 18th-century Alien Enemies Act, which his administration is utilizing to deport alleged Venezuelan gang members without hearings.
This follows Trump’s January decision to classify Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization.
The Trump administration has already taken significant action against illegal immigrant gang members, deporting approximately 250 alleged gangbangers to El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center last Saturday.
Senior Homeland Security officials recently reported that the administration’s mass deportation effort has yielded more than 32,000 arrests in its first 50 days, with 70% of those arrested either facing charges or convicted of crimes.
The Alien Enemies Act, originally passed in 1798, grants the president broad authority to apprehend and remove non-citizens from countries with which the United States is at war or that threaten invasion.
The Trump administration has now applied this rarely-used law to target Venezuelan gang members as part of its broader immigration enforcement strategy.
