Canadian PM Justin Trudeau To Resign - UPDATE: Has Resigned

As the Pierre Poilievre Revolution appears inevitable.
Justin Trudeau is expected to resign as the leader of Canada's Liberal Party, a move that will set up his ouster as Prime Minister as well. According to the Globe and Mail, Trudeau could announce his departure as soon as Monday in a bid to get ahead of an all-important caucus meeting on Wednesday.
The controversial far-left leader has led his party to the abyss over the last several years, with the Pierre Poilievre-led Conservative projected to win a resounding victory in October's elections. Once he's resigned his party position, Trudeau will be replaced as Prime Minister, though the exact timeline is unclear.
Justin Trudeau is expected to announce as early as Monday that he will resign as Liberal Party Leader, three sources said Sunday, as the Prime Minister faces a caucus revolt and dismal public opinion polls that show his party will likely be swept out of power by Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives in a landslide victory.
The sources stressed that they don’t know definitely when Mr. Trudeau will announce his plans to leave but said they expect it will happen before a key national caucus meeting on Wednesday. The Globe and Mail is not identifying the sources because they were not authorized to discuss internal party matters.
The Liberals will no doubt seek a narrative shift by bringing on a fresh face before voters go to the polls. That seems like a lost cause, though, given just how popular Poilievre has become. He recently gave one of the greatest political speeches in modern history, drawing plaudits from around the world.

Justin Trudeau Resigns

Justin Trudeau resigned this morning as Canada’s Prime Minister but suggested he will stay on until his party can choose a replacement for him.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation Monday in the face of rising discontent over his leadership and after the abrupt departure of his finance minister signaled growing turmoil within his government.
Trudeau said “internal battles” mean that he “cannot be the best option” in the next election. He plans to stay on as prime minister until a new leader of the Liberal Party is chosen.
An official familiar with the matter said Parliament, which had been due to resume on Jan. 27, will be suspended until March 24. The timing will allow for a Liberal Party leadership race. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the matter publicly.
All three main opposition parties have said they plan to topple the Liberal Party in a no-confidence vote when Parliament resumes, so a spring election to pick a permanent replacement was almost assured.
