Update: We NEED Rain In Florida And Georgia

I live in an area almost surrounded by fires. Not really close, but close enough where I'm keeping a close eye on it. If I go outside, I can smell smoke and it's been like that for 3 or 4 days now. In the mornings, the sun looks like it's rising up through the fire, there's so much smoke in the air.

One of my regular visitors, wv citybilly, left me a link that I thought I would post here. It shows that the county I live in is in the worst level of drought, "Exceptional Drought." Unfortunately, we will probably continue to be cursed with fires until we get some serious rain.

    1. Thanks for the link, Billy. It shows that the county I live in is under "Exceptional Drought", the worst ranking.

    2. The year I moved to WV was a drought year. The City of Atlanta only had 90 days of water left, and yet . . they still allowed golf courses to continue watering the greens. Pick a city in that bleak area on the drought monitor today and research whether they allow such blantant disregard for survival of the general population.

Then join the head shaking club.

    3. Stream Levels

i.e., Suwannee River at Dowling Park, Florida

If you go to the bottom of the page, you can view the map for a "monitoring location" near you.

    4. And . . when an aquifer (or well) drops below certain levels, it can become contaminated with arsenic.

"As of March 2026, Upper Floridan aquifer levels in North Central Florida have dropped to their lowest point since 2011, falling below the 20th percentile due to severe drought conditions. While most of the district sees less than 15 feet of total fluctuation, current conditions indicate below-normal levels, prompting voluntary and mandatory water use restrictions in several areas."

  2. Hope that Cow Creek fire didn't give the chicoms a good reason to release the monkeys they experiment on, their compound is just about center of the burn area....

  3. Here's a page that I use regularly at work. I've kept a running snapshot of our local KBDI (dought) conditions for the last 10 years or so, just for year-over-year comparison. If you click on the dropdown menu, you can pull up the detailed map of whichever fire district you want to see up close.

  4. You're welcome, Karl. I greatly appreciate your blog. I was a semi-infamous blogger back in the Early Daze of the intarwebz. I live in close proximity of you, from what I've gathered from your blog, and be honored to buy you a couple of drinks of your choice, should you choose to accept the offer. 🙂

    1. Thank you, B.C. I have some entertaining to do today with family so I will go into my info on the blog and see why my email address is not listed. I will be frustratingly busy today.
We will discuss getting together when I get the email address situation corrected.

  5. PS: I can't seem to find the "Contact" button on my phone to hit you up with my "Meat World" email address. I don't use it on ANY website because of my field of work is flooded with you-know-whats. 😎
