The save act will not pass in this congress. This is all a distraction.
ReplyDeleteTo pass the save act Republicans need 60 votes. There is no way they can get 60 votes.
To get rid of the filibuster they would need to vote and get 51 votes. It is unclear that there are 51 Republican votes to do this. Republicans don't want to nuke the only tool they will have next time they are in the minority.
If they did get rid of the filibuster they still need 51 votes to pass the law.
If they managed to get rid of the filibuster it is still unclear that they have the 51 votes to pass the law. Republicans have 53 senators. McConnell, Murkowski, Collins, Tillis, and every democrat will vote no and the thing is dead. It is likely that many other republicans facing competitive midterms will vote against the save act.
