DeleteMom always bought me the super sized Tootsie Rolls for my birthday and Christmas. My jaw hurt after eating those.
DeleteThose were awesome ... and so was your mom. Getting a treat like that in those days was serious stuff.
DeleteA friend of mine back in the day had an aunt that worked for Tootsie in Chicago and she sent him a Tootsie Roll that was about a foot long and as big around as a soda can. He ate about half of it and gave the rest to me. Said he didn't ever want to see another one. I scarfed the rest in about 4 days and loved every bite.
They are hard to keep lit.
ReplyDeleteI bought some Fig Newtons about a year ago, had a craving. Probably been 10+ years since I had one. And yuck. They just don't taste the same. I'm wondering if they changed the recipe since I was, well, 10+ years back would put me at 50. But I remember them being so much better when I was a kid. Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right, Don. They aren't the same. I used to eat fig newtons from time to time, I love figs. But the fig newtons out there today are not the same. Probably nothing but artificial flavors these days. Maybe I ought to tag Sec. Kennedy and see if he can fix the problem.
