Being disabled, I sit at home and try to do what I can here to make our, the wife and I, lives as easy as possible. The wife stills works, she has a little over 1 1/2 years until she retires. I always go to the door when she leaves and returns to open it for her and welcome her home or to give her a goodbye kiss and tell her to hurry home, I love you. You guys know the drill.
Anyway, yesterday afternoon, when she got home, I went and opened the door and as she entered, she took a bad step and started to fall and the only way I could help was to step between her and the door jam which is a metal jam for the sliding glass door. Our combined weight fell against my wrist which was against the jam with my palm turned inwards.
My wrist is now very painful, nothing feels broken, but it is very sore and bruised. It just blows my mind how something that I wouldn't have noticed several years ago, now can almost cripple me.
Posting will be lighter than usual until the wrist feels better. It took me all of 10 minutes just to type this out one (left) handed.

I need to take the other half of that pain pill around noon ... I've actually numbed the pain a little bit. I took half of a real weak pain pill ... tramadol.

ReplyDeleteThanks. Thankfully, it's just the wrist and I've got it wrapped up and that keeps me from using it much. The bruising is widespread but as I get older I seem to bruise easily. Just gonna take it easy.
DeleteMy beloved Mother, who died last year at almost 94 years old, told my brothers and I that "growing old was not for the faint of heart." As I barrel toward 74 I can say that I wholeheartedly agree with her. Get well my friend!

DeleteKarl, did you have it checked out? You may have a compartment (syndrome) fracture which could lead to irreversible muscle and neurovascular damage, torn ligament(s). An once of cure can prevent ten pounds of damage. Hands are highly acceptable to these types of trauma.
ReplyDeleteNot yet. Right after it happened, I moved and manipulated my wrist and fingers and nothing seemed excessively tender. The soreness seems to be throughout the bruised area. The door jam my hand was pressed against is a sliding glass door jam which is basically 3 vanes of metal for the door to recess into when it closes. I think that's why it bruised up real bad.

Compartment fractures don't present right away, the inflammation and irritation causes the pressure build up, by tomorrow you will know... The pressure build up is what causes the damage and then you will need a surgical intervention.
