November 15th In Music

1966 - Jefferson Airplane records "Somebody To Love."

Birthdays:

1945 - Anni-Frid Lyngstad. (Frida) Swedish singer, songwriter from ABBA. Their first hit was the 1974 UK No. 1 single 'Waterloo', followed by 8 other UK No. 1 singles and 9 UK No. 1 albums. ABBA are one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In 1967, Frida won the Swedish national talent competition, New Faces winning a recording contract with EMI Sweden. Born Anni-Frid Synni Lyngstad in Bjorkasen, Ballangen, Norway.

November 16th In Music

1963 - Nino Tempo and April Stevens' "Deep Purple" hits No. 1 in the US. The famous band later name themselves after the song.

1964 - The Animals record "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood."

1968 - Led Zeppelin played their first ever show in the North of England when they appeared at Manchester College of Science & Technology. Zeppelin were paid ≈$266 for the gig.

1968 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience went to No. 1 on the US album chart with their third and final studio album Electric Ladyland. The double album included ‘Crosstown Traffic,’ ‘Voodoo Chile’ and ‘All Along the Watchtower’.

November 17th In Music

1962 - The Four Seasons started a five week run at No. 1 on the US singles chart with 'Big Girls Don't Cry', the group's second No. 1 of the year. It holds that position for 5 weeks.

2007 - The Eagles were at No. 1 on the US album chart with ‘Long Road Out Of Eden’ the bands seventh studio album and first since 1979.

1942 - Bob Gaudio. The Royal Teens, 1958 US No. 3 single 'Short Shorts. The Four Seasons, who had the 1960s hits 'Sherry', 'Big Girls Don't Cry', 'Walk Like a Man', and the 1976 US No. 1 single 'December 1963, (Oh What A Night'). Born in the Bronx, New York.

1944 - Gene Clark. Tambourine player, guitarist, vocalist for The Byrds. Born in Tipton, Missouri.

1946 - Martin Barre. English rock musician best known for his work with progressive rock band Jethro Tull from their second album in 1969 to the band's initial dissolution in 2012. Born in Kings Heath, Birmingham, England.

November 18th In Music

1970 - Led Zeppelin III was at No. 1 on the US & UK album charts.

1978 - Billy Joel went to No. 1 on the US album chart with his sixth studio album, '52nd Street'. His first US No. 1 album was also the first commercial album to be released on compact disc (by Sony Music Entertainment).

1936 - Hank Ballard. US singer, songwriter, (1960 US No. 6 single 'Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go', wrote 1960 US No. 1 hit for Chubby Checker 'The Twist.' Born in Detroit, Michigan.

1947 - Michael Carabello. One of three percussionists in the Latin rock group Santana between 1968 and 1971, during the recording of their first three albums, Santana, Abraxas and Santana III.

1949 - Herman Rarebell. From German rock band Scorpions. Their 1990 power ballad 'Wind Of Change' topped the European charts and was a No. 4 hit in the US. The Scorpions hold the record for the best-selling single by a German artist and band. Born in Schmelz, Germany.

1950 - Rudy Sarzo. Bass, Whitesnake, 1987 US No. 1 single 'Here I Go Again'. Also worked with Dio, Quiet Riot and Ozzy Osbourne. Born in Havana, Cuba.

November 19th In Music

1982 - Led Zeppelin release their final studio album, Coda, a collection of unused songs recorded before drummer John Bonham died in 1980.

Birthdays:

1943 - Fred Lipsius. Piano, Original saxophonist, from jazz-rock American music group Blood Sweat & Tears. They scored the 1969 US No. 2 single 'Spinning Wheel', and the 1969 US No. 12 single 'You've Made Me So Very Happy'. They had a US No. 1 with their second album Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1968. Born in The Bronx, New York.

November 20th In Music

1929 - Leo Reisman records "Happy Days Are Here Again."

1955 - The song that changed popular music history 'Rock Around the Clock' by Bill Haley & His Comets went to the top of the singles chart. The song was used under the opening credits of the film Blackboard Jungle. The song entered the charts a further six times until 1974.

1966 - The Supremes were at No. 1 on the US singles chart with 'You Keep Me Hanging On', the group's seventh US No. 1 spent two weeks at the top of the charts.

1942 - Norman Greenbaum. Singer, songwriter, guitarist, and One Hit Wonder with the 1970 US No. 3 single 'Spirit In The Sky'. Born in Malden, Massachusetts.

1946 - Duane Allman. Guitarist, and co-founder and leader of The Allman Brothers Band who released the classic album Eat a Peach in 1972 and had the 1973 US No. 12 single 'Ramblin Man'. Born in Nashville, Tennessee. Allman died on 10.29.1971.

1947 - Joe Walsh. Guitarist, singer, songwriter, who led The James Gang. He joined the Eagles in 1975 who scored the 1977 US No. 1 single 'Hotel California', plus 5 US No. 1 albums. Born in Wichita, Kansas.

1957 - Jim Brown. Drums, with UB40, who had the 1988 US No. 1 single 'Red Red Wine' and over 30 other top 40 hits. Born in Birmingham, England.

November 21st In Music

1960 - Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs went to No. 1 on the US singles chart with 'Stay', the shortest ever US No. 1 single at one minute 37 seconds.

1970 - Two months after his death Jimi Hendrix was at No. 1 on the UK singles chart with 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)' the closing track on Electric Ladyland, the third and final album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. This was the guitarist's only UK No. 1 single. Hendrix's solo on the track was named the 11th greatest solo of all-time in Guitar World's 100 Greatest Guitar Solos.

Birthdays:

1948 - Lonnie Jordan. American percussionist, keyboardist, vocalist, and songwriter Lonnie Jordan from American funk band War. Their album The World Is a Ghetto was the best-selling US album of 1973. They also scored the 1973 US No. 2 single 'Cisco Kid'. Born in San Diego, California.

1950 - Gary Pihl. American guitarist Gary Pihl best known for playing with Sammy Hagar (from 1977 - 1984) and in the band Boston who he joined in 1986. Born in Chicago, Illinois.

1950 - David Williams. American singer, songwriter, musician who was best known for his work as a prolific session rhythm guitarist, working with artists including Earth, Wind & Fire, The Jacksons, Boz Scaggs, and Herbie Hancock and the Temptations.
