You Learn Something Every Day

Sometimes it's useless.

I’ve seen this ‘meme’ used many times and had no idea it was “ART” or what it was about. I’m NOT an art critic by any stretch of the imagination. Finally I saw the one with Trump in it and decided to check it out.

Here’s what I found.

One of the most recognizable paintings over the past 100 years is Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks". The diner's light partially illuminates the deserted city streets at night, with 4 people inside. The painting is oil on canvas (approx. 33" x 60") and it was sold in 1942, the very year it was completed by Hopper to the Art Institute of Chicago for $3,000 ($57,000 in present money). Today, this work is valued at about $70 million.
