Dem ‘Fact-Checkers’ Fail on ObamaCare Lie
It was The Shout Heard Round the World, and it’s more resonant now than it ever has been.
You remember: It was September 9, 2009, and a youthful and vigorous President Barack Obama — who hadn’t yet been exposed as a lying snake and a traitorous eel — was speaking to a joint session of Congress about healthcare “reform.”
“There are also those,” said the Narcissist-in-Chief, “who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms, the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”
The minority Republicans knew a lie when they heard one, but they limited their reactions to low-level grumbling and harrumphing. And then, a lone voice rose up and out of the din: YOU LIE!
That voice belonged to an otherwise ordinary South Carolina congressman with an altogether ordinary name, Joe Wilson. And while Wilson was subsequently raked over the coals for his breach of decorum, we owe him a debt of gratitude for having had the guts to speak truth to liardom. (In this respect, in much the same way as the heroes of Flight 93 delivered the first American counterpunch against the cult of radical jihadism, so too did Joe Wilson strike the first lonely blow against the cult of radical Obamism.)
Certain lies, though, are like Rasputin: You can poison them, stab them, and shoot them in the chest, but they Just. Won’t. Die.
So it is with this particular ObamaCare lie, which Democrats and their fraudulent Leftmedia “fact-checkers” continue to adhere to like a life ring amid a listing ocean liner. Indeed, their desire to prop up the fiscal disaster known as ObamaCare while at the same time surreptitiously giving free (read: taxpayer-funded) healthcare to illegal aliens is at the center of the Schumer Shutdown. The Democrats are holding out for $1.5 trillion in additional spending — as opposed to simply granting President Donald Trump a “clean” continuing resolution, like they’ve always demanded when a Democrat is in the White House.
On the one hand, I think the Democrats are behaving outrageously, but on the other hand, if the Party of Big Government falls in the forest and nobody notices, is it really a bad thing for the health of our Republic?
“This is false,” says the Associated Press. “That’s false,” shouts the gloriously defunded NPR. “False,” say the sleuths at Snopes. But these claims are based on a semantic game — namely, who counts as an illegal. Still, as Jason Richwine, a scholar at the Center for Immigration Studies, points out, the facts favor the Republicans:
The fact-checkers are wrong. The Republican claim is not amenable to a true-or-false “fact check” because it rests on a defensible opinion of who counts as an illegal immigrant. …
In any case, some fact-checkers tackling the budget dispute do not grasp the subtleties related to the definition of an illegal immigrant. Others acknowledge the existence of noncitizens with limited protections but insist such migrants are considered “lawfully present.” In fact, aliens who are “lawfully present” can also be “inadmissible” at the same time. The strange and contradictory labels that float around in immigration law are not a substitute for thinking through the question of who should be considered an illegal immigrant. There is no perfect answer, but experts at nonpartisan organizations have coalesced around a reasonable one, and it implicitly supports the Republican position on the budget.
Richwine then trenchantly asks, “Will any fact-checkers notice?”
The other argument the Democrats are making is the old expense account argument, the old “you find the hat” argument. But here, let’s give the diabolical Democrats some credit. They knew all along that they’d have air cover from the legacy media, especially if they sufficiently covered their tracks by funneling money to illegals through multiple successive channels rather than directly. As their media trucklings are now arguing: Well, the money isn’t going straight from the U.S. Treasury to the illegal aliens’ pockets, so the Republicans are clearly lying.
But that’s a lie in itself. Money is fungible, and Big Government Money is the most fungible money of all. If you don’t believe me, ask the baby killers at Planned Parenthood.
One other way to look at this is to consider the Democrats’ own intentions. And here, we can harken back to the Democrat presidential primary debate of June 27, 2019, when the moderator, NBC News’s Savannah Guthrie, said, “Raise your hand if your government plan would provide coverage for undocumented immigrants.” Every Democrat’s right hand, all 10 of them, shot into the air.
Leftists are fond of quoting Maya Angelou, so here goes: “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”
There are cracks, though, in this Democrat foundation. And we’re finding them right where you’d expect to find them: at the state level, where their fiscs are getting mugged by reality. As National Review reports, “Over the past few months, Democratic governors in California, Minnesota, and Illinois have all arrived at the same conclusion: It’s not practical to offer taxpayer-funded health insurance to undocumented immigrants.”
They don’t say.

Arguing over health care for illegals completely bypasses the ORIGINAL ARGUMENT that the government should not be in the health care business to begin with. We are so far down the road on that one, there's no real turning back. We are not heading towards a socialist state - we are already a socialist state. Yeah, we get to vote here and there for whatever good that does, but really we are well past the point of claiming to be a free country, a republic, a democracy, a capitalistic country, etc. Nope, we are a full-bore socialistic country with delusional issues. We are in a socialistic house arguing over the window shades like it makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteWell ... damn Don. It's barely 8 in the AM and you've depressed the "F" out of the entire room. JK. What you said, it's completely true. Can't argue with a bit of it.
DeleteYeah, allergies, sinuses running full blast, headache, drugged up on benadryl, and the coffee still hasn't kicked in. Beautiful day outside and I can't enjoy it thru my misery. I figure if I got to be awake for all of that then it's everybody's problem now.
