There were several times there where that could have turned into something disastrous. And the look on the guys face with the motorcycle around 1:15 when he didn't notice it until it would have been too late.

In the 45+ years of driving I've seen 3 cases of a loose tire rolling down the highway. Never a good sight. Once on my bike but I was well situated to avoid it by rolling throttle and out-running it. That bounce it did after hitting the center divider? I've seen one bounce of the divider like that and then go thru someone's windshield. Yeah, that one had to hurt. No bueno.
ReplyDeleteThere were several times while I watched it the first time that I was seriously expecting it to end up in the windshield of oncoming traffic. Thankfully, that never happened. I've seen this happen before with the loose duallys and several loose singles ... a good reason to NEVER let yourself become complacent or too tired on the road. Death could be right around the corner.
DeleteBeing passed by a tire off my trailer at 70 MPH on a divided four lane highway, lookin at oncoming, here comes an RV with a huge windshield. The tire was bouncing but staying true, making Really good time. I know breathing stopped, not sure about the heart.. But that tire went right down the side of the RV, missing going in right on the steering wheel by about three feet. Seeing it bounce and finish crossing the road and get shredded when it went under a barbed wire fence was a relief.
ReplyDeleteFWIW, I was green about pulling a trailer and didn't know that, unlike the car, ya Really need to check lugnuts occasionally.
