Started rebuilding and riding bikes when I was 14. Too young to get a license so I went to motorcycle races to get a chance to ride. After years of riding/dirt racing all the way up to Sportsters a friend lent me his Kawasaki 1000 so smooth and efficient truly effortless to ride no personality like an appliance. The thing was more evil than Christine after 10miles I gave it back and never road a crotch rocket again. I stayed with thumpers
I started biking around the same age and rode dirt bikes up until I bought a nice used Harley 750. Sold it when I went in the Army and I bought a BMW 1100 in Germany. It cost a lot to convert it to US standards and I rode it for about 15 years. Sold it around 2000 and haven't owned one since. Every time I thought I might be ready to buy another bike, I would see some accident where somebody just didn't see a motorcycle and took another rider or a couple out.
