What several of the "11 secret herbs and spices" were. This is probably also why I can eat damn near an entire bucket of KFC original recipe by myself, lol.
Waaay back in the day when kfc was new and affordable we’d get a bucket or two every week at work but we never figured out what to do with the pot of mashed potatoes the general opinion was it was congealed cooking oil from the deep fryer. The most entertaining thing was airmailing a pot of mashed potatoes from the 16th floor targeting abandoned cars down below the splashdown was impressive. We noticed overtime even the nyc rats wouldn’t touch the stuff and rain didn’t wash it off. Good times
Damn ... now I feel nervous about all the KFC potatoes I ate when I was growing up. In all actuality, we haven't bought KFC but a very few times after high school because I met a guy who worked there. I never found out what the "11 secret herbs and spices" were because he didn't know. They came already mixed from the Secret Laboratory, BUT I did find out that one of the biggest 'secret's to making KFC is they pressure cook it right before they fry it and that's what we do when we make fried chicken. We just use our own mix of spices.
Before we were married the memsahib worked at a potato merchants and, as a result, would never buy Cadbury's Smash (the top brand on this side of the lake). She says that all the worst potatoes - including the ones which had to be hosed out of the bulk trucks - went into it.
That's gross. Never heard of Cadbury's Smash though. I think the ones the wife gets when we use 'em are Idahoan or something like that. We use 'em when we just don't want to boil and smash. They're easy and simple, but they probably are done about the same way as the CS's ... yuccckk.
My first job was at KFC. Worked there a week, that's all I could take. Went to work at a boat manufacturing plant & 45yrs later I'll be semi retiring in August. Never ate KFC again either.
Well Congratulations on your upcoming semi-retirement. And although I never eat there anymore either, ~ (maybe twice in the last 20 years) you need to spill your secrets about KFC.

DeleteAnd btw, those potatoes are the same powdered (freeze-dried?) potatoes you can buy in packages everywhere today.
