National Vietnam War Veterans Day - 3.29

National Vietnam War Veterans Day

An act of Congress honoring the nearly 3 million Vietnam Veterans with a day of recognition was signed into law by President Trump in 2017. March 29 is now designated as National Vietnam War Veterans Day by the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017. The U.S. flag is to be flown in commemoration of those who served in Vietnam.
March 29 was chosen as National Vietnam War Veterans Day because on March 29, 1973, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) was disbanded and the last U.S. combat troops departed the Republic of Vietnam.
Although U.S. military advisors had been in South Vietnam since 1955, the proclamation states that Jan. 12, 1962, was the starting point of the war. This is the date when America's first combat mission, Operation Chopper, was launched.
