This incident started out with the SUV getting rear ended by the truck in the video. I don’t think the driver in the truck expected the SUV to stop for the RR warning arm that was dropping and maybe he didn’t see the RR warning lights start flashing.
But the SUV, after being shoved past the warning arm, stopped on the tracks. Mistake. They should have continued on across the tracks after seeing the train approaching. Maybe they wanted to keep in contact with the truck that just hit them to exchange information but they could have done a u-turn and gotten out of the danger area. Instead, they backed up into the warning arm and stopped after contacting it. Again, if they saw the train coming and they didn’t want to be a dumbass, their car is already damaged, break the warning arm off if you need to. This could have been resolved several different ways. Getting out of a perfectly good vehicle (except for the rear end damage) and leaving it in the path of a train showed a serious lack of being able to handle a dangerous situation. I hope they don’t have children.
