Future parents beware: When imaging a fetus, doing so with magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, may induce nightmares. Ultrasound is normally used except in those cases where doctors need to take a closer look at the fetus’ brain or other organs.
At least two of the images were confirmed to be shared previously by Harvard Medical School researchers, including the larger left image, which shows a fetus at 19 weeks, and the lower right image at 24 weeks. The top-right image was not confirmed by HMS, but Jason Moody, a University of Wisconsin Ph.D candidate who uses MRI technology, said that he “strongly suspects” that image to be authentic as well.
