One of my friends back in the day when we were into Estes rockets used to absolutely destroy everything he built ... on purpose. One of his rockets did something very similar to this and we found out he had added a large amount of modeling clay in the nose. Why? No clue, he just did stuff like that. Like placing M-80's into the cargo area with the fuses placed where the parachute ejection charge would light them.
