1976 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ
I love this car.
It was special-ordered with nearly every conceivable option, 26 of them per the Pontiac historical report. The SJ had to be ordered to get the LJ, and the rare electric sunroof, leather seats, and the 200 hp 455 cu.in. four-barrel V-8 engine (last year offered) were also specified.
The original catalytic converter-equipped single exhaust system was replaced with a true dual layout featuring 2-1/2-inch pipes.
This GP was re-painted at the dealership, under warranty, which was common at the time. GM had issues with paint and many cars were re-painted in the first year or two. Though performed many years ago, it was of extremely high quality. There’s been no rust ever, and no bubbling under the vinyl top ever, and the original colors have a very high degree of shine.
The rare factory electric sunroof even comes with the original crank to close it, if the battery is dead. Optional 15-inch Honeycomb wheels replaced the extra-cost Rally II wheels.
