The Fleet Oiler USS Severn (AO-61) refueling the Forrestal class aircraft carrier USS Forrestal (CV-59) and the Des Moines class cruiser USS Des Moines (CA-134) on November 7, 1956.
Forrestal and Des Moines were part of a small fleet operating in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean, just off of the entrance to the Mediterranean. They were stationed there in response to the Suez Crisis, ready to intervene if need be. However, politics ultimately won the day and the US Fleet was recalled the following month.
