In 1880-1888, a ferry service took people from St. Augustine, FL across what was then known as Matanzas Bay to Anastasia Island? Once there, they boarded this mule-drawn trolley with wooden rails which took them to the beach at Lighthouse Park. In 1895 a wooden bridge was constructed which connected Anastasia Island to St. Augustine. The mule-drawn trolley continued to run until 1899. The Bridge of Lions opened in the late 1920s.
