‘State-Sanctioned Abuse’: J.K. Rowling Blasts Courts For Asking Rape Victims To Use Rapists’ Pronouns.
“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling unloaded on court systems that she said were embracing calls to address criminals by the gender with which they identify – even if that means a female rape victim would be asked to address her male rapist or alleged rapist as “she” or “her.”
Rowling was responding to the news out of South Australia, where the courts have endorsed the use of preferred pronouns during regular courtroom proceedings as a “matter of respect” going forward, stating that the move was necessary for “ensuring public confidence in the proper administration of justice,” according to The Australian.
“Asking a woman to refer to her male rapist or violent assaulter as ‘she’ in court is a form of state-sanctioned abuse. Female victims of male violence are further traumatised by being forced to speak a lie,” Rowling said in a post on X.
The court in South Australia released a statement saying, “Unfortunately, Ms Rowling has misunderstood the protocol” — although the fact remains that the policy as she described it has been applied in other jurisdictions.
Critics quickly attacked Rowling, who has often been the target of radical transgender activists due to her insistence on protecting single-sex spaces for women and sex-based rights. She responded to some and highlighted the hateful comments of others.
When one person said that she couldn’t imagine being compelled to do something like that, Rowling said she wouldn’t be cowed into complying. “Personally, I wouldn’t be compelled, I’d take contempt of court. It’s time for mass non-compliance with this bull***t,” she said.
“Is this actually happening in current cases or just hypothetically has the potential of happening given the law?” another asked, and Rowling responded with an example.
“It has happened. Here’s one UK example, where a judge told a woman who was beaten up by a trans-identified male that she showed ‘bad grace’ by refusing to call her attacker ‘she’ in court,” she posted.
Rowling followed that with several screenshots showing the hateful comments directed at her for suggesting that a male rapist should not get to force his victim to refer to him as “she.”
“A very small sampling of what happens when you say on Twitter that compelling a woman to call her rapist or violent male attacker ‘she’ in court is state-sanctioned abuse,” she said.
“B**** better hope her house is safe,” one profanity-laced post concluded. “A lot of things can happen that look like accidents.”
Another claimed that Rowling was saying that all trans-identifying men were rapists.
