‘It’s Time To Say We’ve Had Enough’: Riley Gaines Promotes ‘Real Women’s Day.’
(I’ve already put it on my calendar. I’m carrying my wife out to eat.)
Former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines shared a video on Wednesday promoting “Real Women’s Day” on October 10.

Gaines, who delayed dental school in order to join the fight to protect women’s and girl’s sports, explained that in Roman numerals the date, 10/10, would read X/X just like the chromosomes of a biological female.
“Stand with me and all real women on October 10th (X/X in Roman numerals) in declaring this day as Real Women’s Day! The war on women is in full effect, so it’s time to say we’ve had enough. #RealWomensDay #SaveWomensSports,” she posted via X, sharing a link to her website.

“So, a few months ago during Women’s History Month, I noticed a common theme,” Gaines said in the video. “The theme was that in places where we were supposed to be honoring trailblazing women, we were honoring men who were claiming the identity of a woman.”
Gaines went on to give examples such as Hershey’s Chocolate and ESPN — the latter of which honored her former competitor, trans-identifying UPenn swimmer Lia Thomas, as a “pioneer for women’s sports.”
“So this is when I started to think to myself, we need a day to honor real women,” Gaines continued. “You know, women with XX chromosomes. So after thinking and brainstorming, I have now declared October 10th as Real Women’s Day. Now, why October 10th? October 10th is the tenth day of the tenth month, which, in Roman numerals, is XX.”
Gaines said that she had done the necessary research and legwork to have the date declared National Real Women’s Day, but had been blocked at every turn because her proposal was “too controversial.”
“So I’m asking you and encouraging you to stand with me and all other real women on October 10th in recognizing this day as Real Women’s Day,” she said. “We need to say enough is enough. It is time to roll up our sleeves and say no. Women are being erased, so it’s time that our voices are heard.”
