Florida Capitol lit up blue and white in signal of support for Israel.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – As a sign of support for Israel after terror attacks from Hamas, Gov. Ron DeSantis directed the Florida Capitol be lit up blue and that state flags be flown at half staff.
“On October 7, the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, Hamas terrorists launched a violent attack on the State of Israel and the Jewish people,” DeSantis wrote in a memorandum Monday evening. “As of today, there have been at least 900 deaths, including many civilian women and children, and over 100 have been taken hostage.”
“This is a direct assault on the people of Israel and the Jewish community,” he continued. “We reinforce our commitment to Israel and our fight against anti-Israel sentiments. Florida stands with the State of Israel and Israeli citizens.”
DeSantis said the move is a “mark of respect for the victims and in solidarity with the State of Israel.”
Flags are directed to be flown at half-staff and the Florida Capitol will be lit up until Friday, Oct. 13.
Tuesday morning, DeSantis also announced a proposal for sanctions against Iran amid reports they helped plan the Hamas attacks on Israel over the weekend.
“These will be, by far, the strongest Iran sanctions that any state has enacted,” he said.
The governor said the proposal is set to be considered by Florida lawmakers during the next legislative session.
DeSantis had strong words against Hamas after the weekend attacks, urging Israel to “destroy” Hamas.
“Israel must destroy Hamas and its terrorist infrastructure,” he said. “Half-measures will just guarantee more attacks in the future.”
DeSantis referenced a video from nearly 10 years ago, when he was a congressman representing Florida, where he demanded a “complete defeat of Hamas.”
“Hamas is a terrorist organization. It’s an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s reason for existence is to destroy Israel, and Hamas desires a second Holocaust,” the then-congressman said.
Shortly after the attacks over the weekend, the governor said Hamas deserves a “swift and lethal response.”
Referencing a report from the Wall Street Journal that found Iran “helped plot” the attack on Israel, DeSantis called on President Joe Biden’s administration to “take responsibility” and admit that “Iran directly supported Hamas’ heinous attack on Israel.”
The report that links Iran to the recent attacks from Hamas comes after the Biden administration unfroze billions in Iranian assets.
