1971 - The Who scored their first and only UK No. 1 album with Who’s Next the bands sixth LP release, featuring 'Won't Get Fooled Again'
1976 - One Hit Wonders Wild Cherry started a three week run at No. 1 on the US singles chart with 'Play That Funky Music'. The song started life as a B-side. It was the group's only hit in the UK which peaked at No. 7.
1978 - WKRP in Cincinnati, a TV series about a radio station that switches format from easy listening to rock, makes its debut on CBS. It lasts four seasons, enjoying support from real radio professionals who recognize the quirky characters (incompetent general manager Arthur Carlson, disheveled morning jock Johnny Fever) in their co-workers.
1979 - The Eagles released 'Heartache Tonight' from their album The Long Run. The song originated from an jam session between Glenn Frey and J. D. Souther who would visit Frey's home in Los Angeles whenever he was in town on tour. Frey and Souther wrote the first verse while listening to Sam Cooke songs. In the heat of jamming, Frey called Bob Seger on the phone and sang him the verse. Seger then blurted out the chorus.
1981 - The Doors Greatest Hits album is certified Platinum.
1993 - Meat Loaf went to No. 1 on the UK album chart for the first of five times with Bat Out Of Hell II.
