This accident occurred August 1, 2023 on I-26 in Polk County, North Carolina, about 81 miles west of the largest city, Charlotte, in a construction zone with the left lane closed. In the clip, you can see a driver in a white pickup traveling in the right lane. The pickup driver appears to fail to notice a semi truck in the right lane. The pickup makes a last-ditch effort to maneuver into the center lane, but ends up hitting the semi in the left lane. The semi in the left lane loses control and strikes the other semi, then crashes off the road into a Porta Potty on the shoulder.
Despite the dramatic footage, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said no one was seriously injured in the wreck. Troopers said the driver of the white truck was at fault and charged with careless and reckless driving.
A Homestretch Logistical trucking company representative shared the video to show the importance of "all drivers sharing the road and allowing all motorists the space they need for safe operation of their vehicles."
