Softshell turtles can get pretty huge. They also have a serious bite grip, you DO NOT want to get your fingers or hands near that mouth or within it's range, which as you can see here, is much more extensive than what most inexperienced folks would think. We were told an old folks tale when we were growing up that if you got bit, they wouldn't let go until the next time it thundered. Luckily for one of my friends, I decided not to wait for thunder and I busted out my Old Timer. The one in this clip still has the fisherman's hook and the spoon or spinning lure attached. When I was much younger, this one would have been butchered and cooked.
