1962 - James ‘Jimi’ Hendrix was honorably discharged from the 101st Airborne Paratroopers, after serving a little over a year of his 3-year commitment. Hendrix rarely talked about his time in the Army, but when questioned, he claimed an ankle injury from a parachute jump as reason for his discharge. The real reason isn't revealed until his military files become public in 2005. The reason for his discharge is "unsuitability," as his superiors agree he will never be a good soldier, in part because he's more interested in his guitar than his rifle. Hendrix joined the Army on 5.31.1961.
