A huge crane in New York City just collapsed this morning and sent people running for cover as it hit a building and fell to the ground.

According to the New York Post, five people were injured including a firefighter:
Five people were injured, including a firefighter, when a 16-ton crane collapsed into a neighboring building after catching fire in New York City on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The crane was operating on 570 10th Avenue — an under-construction, vacant building near Hudson Yards, between West 41st and West 42nd Streets — when the cabin area suddenly caught fire around 7:30 a.m., the NYPD said.
The top portion collapsed, striking a building across the street before crashing onto the ground below, according to cops and the footage.
Pedestrians scurried and passing cars honked their horns in the seconds after the collapse, the footage shows.
“You see the debris on the street, this could have been much worse. We were fortunate that this was not a busy time of day,” Mayor Adams told reporters at the scene.
“We’re also fortunate that first responders responded in such a manner and made the right evaluation of how to look at the fire and crisis we were presented with and came up with [the right solution],” Adams said.
Four civilians and one firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the debris, authorities said.
At least three were hospitalized.
I’m glad no one was seriously hurt. But sheesh, what a site to see if you’re there in the street. Brings back terrible memories…
