TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Through April 2023, Florida Republicans have extended their lead over registered Democrats by over 116,000, data shows.
In November, Republicans led Democrats by a little over 350,000.
Less than six months later, that lead now stands at 472,780, and continues to grow by tens of thousands per month.
Both parties are losing voters, though.
Since late 2022, Republicans lost around 18,000 voters. However, their expanding lead over Democrats can be attributed to Democrats losing voters at a much more rapid pace.
Over the same time period, Florida Democrats lost a massive 134,583 voters, more than 600% faster than Republicans.
From March 30 to April 30, Republicans expanded their lead by over 17,000 voters.
Florida’s Voice reported last month on the Democrats hemorrhaging support, at the time losing more than 115,000 voters since late 2022.
A large portion of the registration loss can occur due to the Department of State clearing out voter rolls. According to the department, in 2023 so far, more than 85,000 active and more than 3,000 inactive voters have been removed.
From last month, that represents nearly 20,000 more voters being cleaned out from Florida’s systems.
The Republican Party of Florida is chaired by Christian Ziegler and the state’s Democratic Party by Nikki Fried.
