It should be noted that the original Meathead, Michael Stivic (for whom Rob Reiner was cast) was a blathering liberal who sponged off of Archie (Carroll O’Conner) and Edith (Jean Stapleton) in ‘All In The Family’ until he got a teaching job. He ended up abandoning his wife, Gloria (Sally Struthers) and young son Joseph (twins, Jason or Justin Draeger) to go live in a commune with one of his young female students.
