I do my best to keep my name off all the mailing lists I can and I will CALL companies who send me catalogs trying to sell me crap. If you email them, then your name goes on another list. I buy everything that I can from local stores. Veggies, meat, and eggs from local farmers and get the rest of my food stuff and clothing from local stores. Name brand clothing only appeals to me in just a very few things. I'm not an eco-tard but I do try to live as simply as I can.
